In this detailed walkthrough, we’ll explain how you can begin and complete the quest, A Garrison To Dismantle, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

A Garrison To Dismantle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC lets you face off against Imagawa Tomeji. However, whether the boss is alone or accompanied by other highly skilled fighters will depend on your actions preceding this quest. Although a challenging opponent in his own right, this fight will go much smoother if you only have to deal with Tomeji alone without additional enemies.
In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can get to the boss and some strategies for taking him down.
How To Begin A Garrison To Dismantle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
You can begin the quest in two ways. The first path involves taking down all 14 Captains in the Dismantling One By One quest beforehand. After you take down the 14th Captain, A Garrison To Dismantle quest will begin automatically. Alternatively, you can choose to ignore all of the Captains completely and head directly to Tomeji’s location to begin the battle with him. However, keep in mind that the battle will play out very differently based on whether you eliminated all the Captains beforehand or not.
Find Tomeji

Regardless of which path you take, you can find Imagawa Tomeji inside Sumoto Castle. This location is in the western part of Awaji Island. Once there, proceed to the outer ring of the castle and speak with Konatsu. If you killed Tomeji’s Captains earlier, Konatsu will directly reference that and say Tomeji is all alone. At the end of this conversation, you can choose whether you want to take on Tomeji as Naoe or Yasuke.
Since this is a straight-up fight without any stealth mechanics at play, we suggest choosing Yasuke here. As soon as you make the choice, a cutscene triggers, and the battle will begin once the scene plays out.
How To Defeat Imagawa Tomeji in A Garrison To Dismantle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the next portion of our guide on A Garrison To Dismantle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we’ve offered a few tricks to help you in the upcoming fight. If you didn’t take down the Captains before triggering this battle, Tomeji will not be alone. Instead, he’ll have his entire entourage around him, which means the fight will be extremely challenging. However, if you managed to slay all of his Captains beforehand, you’ll only have to fight Tomeji. Let’s take a look at how you should proceed in both cases.
Defeating Tomeji One on One
This is the ideal scenario, where Yasuke and Tomeji go face to face with each other without any distractions or additional enemies. But you’d do well not to underestimate him. He’s an exceptional fighter equipped with a deadly kanabo. The following tips should help you survive the fight and defeat him.
- Tomeji has a variety of attacks, many of which are unblockable. Watch out for the red glow attack and quickly dodge out of the way.
- Tomeji will also have a few blue-marked attacks that Yasuke can parry. However, keep in mind that you’ll have to parry these attacks consecutively several times before you get an opening to deal damage to him.
- Patience is key in this fight, and timing your dodges will be crucial. If you dodge at the last instant before the attack lands, the boss will become vulnerable for a short window. You can unleash several attacks during this time.
- Another opening comes right after Tomeji performs a specific combo that ends with him slamming his kanabo on the ground. He’ll need a couple of seconds to catch his breath afterward, and that’s when you should attack him a few times.
- We also highly recommend using abilities that cause the boss to fall on the ground. When that happens, you can deal additional damage to him without fear of retaliation.
Defeating Tomeji and His Captains
If Tomeji is accompanied by his Captains, you’re in for one of the toughest fights in the entire game. Thankfully, the 10 Captains that accompany him won’t rush in at once. Instead, Honda Mosuke will begin the offensive while the others stand around and watch for now.
- Avoid Honda’s strike as they deal damage over time.
- As time passes, more and more of the Captains will join the fight. So, we suggest taking Honda down quickly.
- Next, go after Tozawa Yataro. He’s the heavily armored enemy who doesn’t take any damage from normal attacks. You’ll need to make him vulnerable first before your attacks can penetrate his armor.
- You should also take down all of the Teppo-wielding opponents as quickly as you can, especially Ikoma Matagoro. This Captain has a brass Teppo that fires explosive shots. These can stagger Yasuke and leave him defenseless.
- Once the most dangerous captains are down, you can proceed with taking down the rest of them in any order you please.
- Tomeji will enter the arena when only one of the captains is left standing.
- Take down the remaining Captain first and then begin fighting Tomeji. Employ the same strategies we listed for his solo fight, and you should be able to defeat him without too much trouble.
