Assassin’s Creed Shadows is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the AC series. The game takes you through 16th-century feudal Japan, where you play as Yasuke and Naoe. While the base game offers enough content at its release, Ubisoft has already revealed its first-ever AC Shadows expansion – Claws of Awaji.

The expansion is set on the mysterious island of Awaji, located beyond the shores of Osaka. Unfortunately, there is not much information available on the expansion except for some key points to take away from the official website and trailer. Here is everything that we know so far about Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Claws of Awaji expansion.

Claws of Awaji is the first expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, confirmed to release later in 2025. The expansion takes both of our protagonists to the island of Awaji, beyond Osaka Bay, in search of a mysterious treasure. However, the journey won’t be easy, as Awaji is full of traps and ambushes from a brand-new faction.

The island of Awaji is going to be a whole new open-world area with these additions that promise to expand the base game:

  • New region
  • A new type of weapon for Naoe
  • Side activities
  • Brand new gears
  • New skills

In the pre-order bonus trailer, Naoe talks about not allowing the stains of Sanzoku Ippa to remain on the island. Sanzoku Ippa is the new faction that is going to relentlessly hunt you down during your search for the lost treasure.

Naoe is also confirmed to get a brand-new weapon, the bō, which is a Japanese wooden staff. Unfortunately, this weapon is not usable by Yasuke, as both characters have their own unique set of usable weapons. The Claws of Awaji expansion also promises to add at least 10 hours worth of content in addition to the 70–80 hours the base game offers. This ensures players will have a whole new experience outside the main story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
