Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Defensive Position Main Quest Walkthrough

Assassinate Wakasa in Defensive Position in Assassin’s Creed Shadows by attacking her at Osaka Castle under the cover of darkness.

The Defensive Position main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is part of the Onryo storyline for Naoe. It is one of two quests that can be triggered during The Tea Ceremony mission. If you choose to confront Otama instead of Wakasa, the Defensive Position quest will start.

Wakasa is one of the Onryo, the Golden Teppo who shot Naoe and left her for dead. To complete the mission, you must assassinate Wakasa at her well-defended position in Osaka Castle instead of getting an easy kill at her home. The mission rewards you with 2,000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, and a tanto.

How To Complete Defensive Position in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Head to Osaka Castle in Izumi Settsu, where Wakasa is positioned at the Upper Construction Site. It is best to carry out the mission under the cover of darkness, as several sentries patrol the area.

Fortunately, you will not need to fight any guards if you take the right path. When you attack at night, the inner castle walls will serve as a safe path to the construction site. Here is a clear route to Wakasa:

• Approach the castle from the south and climb its corner tower. 
• When the guard to the left is facing away, pass through the shrubbery ahead and climb the inner wall.
• Sprint along the wall to the inner keep, where you will see Wakasa up on the construction site giving instructions to her soldiers.
• Skirt left on the inner wall to find scaffolding on the left side of the Upper Construction Site.
• Climb up and assassinate the guard patrolling the floor. 
• Jump out of the window straight ahead and onto the opposite platform.
• Turn around and grapple to the second floor of the construction site. 
• Skirt right to prevent Wakasa from seeing you, stealth kill the guard behind her, and approach from a blind spot to assassinate her.
  • Alternatively, charge directly at her for a duel. 

You need not fret about the guards that may be alerted after you assassinate Wakasa. Once she is eliminated, a cutscene will play, and you will be teleported outside the castle. With the Onryo down, Naoe is one step closer to getting revenge for her father’s death.
