Fight of Kakushiba Ikki is the third main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the first main mission where you play as Naoe. Moreover, this mission serves as a tutorial, explaining a few basic features such as lock-on and assassinations. Although the mission is straightforward, newer players may find it confusing as they get used to Shadows’ assassination mechanics.

To help you with that, here’s a walkthrough of the Fight of Kakushiba Ikki main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

This main mission starts with a cutscene where Naoe and Nagato look down from atop a hill at the army marching under Oda Nobunaga. Naoe asks Nagato what they should do, and he replies that they must ride to Aekuni Shrine. This ends the cutscene and begins a horse-riding section where you must follow Nagato the entire way. Use the gallop feature by pressing Shift on the keyboard or the Left Stick on the controller to ride faster.

Keep riding toward Aekuni Shrine Town and continue through it until the screen zooms in on an Ashigaru Swordsman, who shoots down your horse. This triggers the combat tutorial for Naoe. As she gets up from the fall, the Ashigaru soldier launches an unstoppable attack, causing time to slow down and display a button prompt to dodge. On the keyboard, press Alt, or on the controller, press the Circle Button.

Dodge the attacks and keep attacking the soldier until you defeat him. Then, run toward the marker where Nagato and the townspeople are fighting more soldiers. Here, the game introduces the lock-on and target-switching mechanics. You can lock onto an enemy by pressing the Middle Mouse Button on the keyboard or the Right Stick on the controller. To switch between targets, simply look at another enemy.

This fight is relatively easy, as there are many allies to assist you. Additionally, the enemies are only level 3 and pose little challenge this early in the game. After the battle, a cutscene begins where Momochi Sandayu and Nagato discuss how to defeat Oda. However, Nagato seems focused on something else. At this point, you receive your hidden blade.

After Nagato gives you his hidden blade, he instructs you to run to the mountain and retrieve a box from a Kofun, using the hidden blade as the key. After this, Nagato rides off with Sandayu to assist him at Mibuno Castle. The cutscene ends, and a clear marker directs you to the Kofun, but you must deal with some enemies along the way. From this point in the Fight of Kakushiba Ikki quest, you play alone as Naoe.

This section introduces the stealth and assassination mechanics that Naoe will frequently rely on throughout the playthrough. Run towards the blue marker, and soon the game teaches you how to use the Observe feature to tag enemies. Observing an enemy zooms the camera and places a tag that remains on them as they move. This feature is useful for tracking multiple enemies in a large area.

Observe the enemy before you by pressing the Left Trigger or Right Mouse Button to mark him. Crouch and move through the grass until you see the Assassinate prompt on the screen. On the keyboard, press F, or press the Right Button on the controller to perform the assassination.

After eliminating the soldier, head towards the marker, where the game introduces the whistle feature. Press X on the keyboard or the down button on the D-pad to whistle and lure the enemy toward you. As before, assassinate him when he gets close.

Next, proceed to the marker, where you need to go prone through the grass by pressing C on the keyboard or holding the square button on the controller. Stick to the right side, illuminated by the candles, and climb onto the log to perform an aerial assassination on the enemy below.

There are no more enemies after this section, so go to the final blue marker, which is now on the Kofun. Once there, head down the stairs to trigger a cutscene. After the events of the cutscene, Naoe wakes up at Tomiko’s Homestead, marking the end of the Fight of Kakushiba Ikki main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
