Assassin's Creed Shadows: The Overlap Mission Guide

The Overlap is the second quest in the collaboration between Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Dead by Daylight. Here is a complete guide on it.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows brought three quests in its new collaboration with Dead by Daylight. The first quest, titled “Vision of the Realms,” starts with Naoe investigating Akashi Village.

Once you unearth the statue in the previous quest, this quest begins. Here is the complete guide for The Overlap in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Overlap in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

This quest starts immediately after the Vision of the Realms quest. At the start, you will be given the opportunity to select your player for this mission: Naoe or Yasuke.

Since this mission involves more sneaking around in the current section, it is advised to proceed with Naoe. However, you can choose Yasuke as well if you feel confident in your skills to evade danger and hide effectively.

Cleanse the Totems

You will be in a strange realm where you need to cleanse four totems. However, you will be hunted by the Oni for the duration of this mission.

Moreover, you need to stay in the shadows while you cleanse these totems. Stepping into the light will alert the Oni to your location, causing the demon to teleport to you. If this happens, you need to run, parkour away, and hide in the shadows.

This enemy is unlike anything you’ve faced before in this game. Also, you should always be moving since this enemy checks various hiding locations for you.

(Note: Do not bother trying to fight the Oni for now. You cannot hurt it with any of your attacks. Moreover, your gear will be taken from you, so it’s a useless endeavor to fight for now.)

The four totems you need to cleanse are located on the roofs of buildings. Additionally, they will all be marked for you to locate without much difficulty. Therefore, you should stay up top to have a good view of the totems along with the movement of the Oni. This will also let you stay out of the Oni’s sight for most of the mission.

You will face a series of quick-time prompts if you try to cleanse a totem. Failing this quick-time event will alert the Oni to your location and will not cleanse the totem. Even if you press the prompts at the right time, the Oni will be alerted to your location. However, this will have the added benefit of cleansing the totem, so you will have less work remaining.

Oni Boss Fight

Once you purify all four totems, the glowing red gate will shift colors. Now you can go through this gate and start the Oni boss fight.

Before starting this fight, you can choose to play as Yasuke or Naoe. In this section, you can proceed with Yasuke, as he has higher defense and damage-dealing capability in a straight fight. The Oni uses a kanabo in battle, which is quite a slow weapon on its own.

However, it can teleport in the middle of its swings, making it more unpredictable to counter. Moreover, it can summon spears to toss at you if you get out of range. However, you can dodge all these attacks with some practice.

Once the boss fight is over, you can return to Tomiko to end your mission.

Return to Tomiko

After completing this quest, the final quest of the collaboration will start. In Back to Reality, you have to report back to Tomiko and inform her about the village.

Finally, this will end the collaboration and reward you with:
