Find out how to complete the Tournament Mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows with our detailed guide. Defeat all opponents easily.

There are several missions in Assassin’s Creed Shadows that unlock after you progress through a certain part of the story. These will automatically trigger, and you can’t attempt them before reaching the key point in the main story. The Tournament is one such quest that you get in the game, almost towards the end of the narrative.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how you can unlock the quest and how you can complete The Tournament mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How To Unlock The Tournament Mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

The mission will unlock only when you’ve defeated nine out of the 12 Shinbakufu tied to the game’s main story. After you reach this point, speak with Gyoji in Yamato to start the mission. You can easily locate him, since he will be right outside your hideout waiting to speak to you about this particular quest. He will direct you to the fighting arena where you can take part in the Tournament. In the southeastern portion of Yamato is Ominesanji Temple, which is where you’ll need to go to advance the quest. The closest fast travel point to this location is the Ominesanji Overlook.
Once you reach the Ominesanji Temple, you’ll need to talk to Gyoji again. He’ll ask you to take on four one-on-one duels with warriors as part of the tournament. After defeating the first four warriors, you’ll then face off against the champion.
How To Complete The Tournament Mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

We suggest completing this mission as Yasuke and arming him with a long katana. You will face some challenging opponents as part of this quest, but after every round, you can take as long of a break as needed. So, we’d recommend taking a break and preparing for the fight ahead. Also, preparation for the coming battle can become much easier if you know what kind of weapon your next opponent wields.
Here’s a complete guide on your five opponents and their weapons.
- Lady Masago will be your first opponent in the Tournament mission. She will fight with a naginata, so make sure you are prepared to deal with her mid-range attacks with the weapon.
- Lord Suguru is a warrior that you’ll face in the 2nd round of the mission. He will fight you armed with a katana.
- In the third round, you’ll fight against Lord Hokuto. He uses a Kanabo and will deal a hefty bit of damage if any of his attacks land. Dodging is highly important in this fight. However, if your Yasuke can parry red-glowing attacks, this ability too can be greatly helpful.
- Lady O-Sen is your fourth opponent during the tournament. She uses two poison katanas that can inflict damage over time if you’re not careful. She will also throw ranged items, such as kunai or shuriken, during the battle, so be ready to get out of the way of these. Yasuke can also block some ranged attacks.
- You’ll face the champion, Lord Unkai, after defeating the first four opponents. He will use a naginata in the fight, so you’ll have to maintain some distance. However, if you go too far away from him, he’ll use that opportunity to consume a health potion and get back his lost health.
After defeating all of these opponents, you’ll need to talk to Gyoji once more. He’ll promise to reach out to you in the future if other tournaments become available. This completes the quest and unlocks the Test Your Might trophy or achievement.

Best Gear for the Tournament Mission

We recommend a long katana for Yasuke. Make sure you’ve fully upgraded the katana you choose for the mission. Also, make sure that your katana has an armor-piercing engraving on it to quickly get through the armor protection of your opponents.
Besides that, armor is highly important. Our suggestion would be to unlock the following armor:
- Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend: This armor unlocks an engraving that increases your damage by 75%. However, your health is restricted to just 25%.
- Protector’s Armor: This one unlocks an engraving that allows you to parry the red glowing attacks.
You don’t actually have to equip these armor sets. Instead, use the unlocked engravings from this armor on your preferred set. This should make it easier for you to end fights with your opponents quickly.
Also, make sure that you invest a large deal of your skills in the Samurai and Long Katana trees for Yasuke before taking on the Tournament mission.
