Dungeons & Dragons has always been about carving your own path and telling your own story, and Baldur’s Gate 3 takes this to heart. This philosophy bleeds into the game’s narrative, letting you shape it through your choices and actions. It also bleeds into the gameplay, letting you dictate the pace of the combat, the style, the aggression, the strategy, and much more. Stealth is one such approach to gameplay in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Stealth in Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to sneak about, ambush enemies, steal stuff undetected, and just makes you feel like a cool, sneaky ninja in general. It is a fun way to play, but the game does very little to tell you how to do so. If you’re someone looking to use stealth in Baldur’s Gate 3 but don’t know how to, we have you covered. In this guide, we shall go over how to use stealth in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Stealth is all about staying out of the enemy line of sight, and you can check everyone’s view by pressing the Shift key. Doing so will bring an icon near your cursor. If the icon is a Sun, you are fully visible, and if it’s a half Sun, you are partially obscured. You can go obscure by pressing the ‘C’ key to toggle crouch. You can do the same for your whole party by pressing Shift+C.

When you end up in the enemy’s cone of vision when crouched, the game initiates a stealth check. If you pass the check, you will “hide successfully.” If you fail the stealth check, your character will be detected and will uncrouch on their own. These stealth checks draw from the traits you invest in.

Dexterity and Stealth Proficiency influence the stealth check. The check is also influenced by the environment, as well as the traits and perception of the enemy. If all of these factors play into your favor, you will pass the stealth check and remain undetected. If you’re looking to sneak about enemies successfully, we recommend sticking to the shadows and dimly lit places while also remaining crouched at all times.
