Dungeons and Dragons has always been about telling the best possible stories, and Larian Studios takes the D&D spirit to heart in Baldur’s Gate 3. The critically acclaimed RPG is filled with narrative moments conveyed through the environment, setting, dialogues, and most importantly, the brilliantly acted cutscenes.
Baldur’s Gate 3 features hundreds of cutscenes that help progress the story beats and move the narrative forward. These cutscenes can be either short or long depending on the necessities of the narrative but never come close to outlasting their welcome. That is, until you move on to a second or third playthrough of the game where you wish you could skip cutscenes.
In future playthroughs, you’re familiar with most of the main story beats. Sitting through cutscenes you’ve already seen then becomes a frustrating experience. Thankfully, the devs predicted this, and Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to skip cutscenes to skip through the familiar stuff and jump right into the action.

As stated earlier, you can skip through cutscenes in Baldur’s Gate 3. The ability to do so whenever you like is a blessing in replay playthroughs of the 70+ hour main story. You can do so by pressing the [ESC] key on PC and the designated Pause button on your console. This will skip through the cutscene and throw you right back into the gameplay. While this feature is helpful, we do not recommend doing so on your first playthrough, as the narrative is a big part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 experience.
In addition to skipping cutscenes, the game also lets you skip dialogues. This is very useful if your reading speed outpaces the delivery of the dialog. You can skip through the dialogue by pressing the [Space] key after each dialogue and the designated key shown on your console.
