Baldur’s Gate 3 has multiplayer, and you can enjoy the epic adventure game with friends. However, there is more to BG3 co-op than you may think.
Larian Studios’ previous titles, especially the most famous Divinity: Original Sin series, all had multiplayer co-op, and Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t an exception. You can play this epic RPG adventure based on Dungeons and Dragons with friends or family.

Baldur’s Gate is currently in the early access stage. Therefore you may experience disconnections or some minor issues when playing multiplayer or even solo. It’s something to be expected until the full release on August 31, 2023.
How Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiplayer Works?
Baldur’s Gate 3 co-op multiplayer allows up to four players to join the adventure, explore the world and witness the story. Here are some of the most important points on how Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiplayer Works:
- You can begin the adventure together, or your friends can jump to your already-started game anytime.
- Players create characters simultaneously, so you’ll get a notification when other players finish the process, and the game starts when all players are ready.
- Any player can talk to the NPCs, but others can listen to the conversation and even take part in it.
- During the dialogues, players can vote on what decision they want to make, and all players are often included in cutscenes, making the experience even more engaging.
- If you decide to skip the cutscene, it cuts it for everyone, but sometimes it’ll wait for all players to choose their decisions in dialogue or finish watching the animated part or scene.
- Combat in BG 3 is turn-based, so players can defeat enemies together, cast complementary spells, or build their characters for powerful combos.
- Friendly fire is something to consider and watch out for because there is no option to turn it off.
- Players can even pickpocket each other as long as dice roll on their behalf and they complete the skill check.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s couch co-op: Split-Screen Multiplayer
Baldur’s Gate 3 has online and Lan co-op multiplayer available, but a Split screen option is not implemented yet. It is expected to be available at full release. Even though Baldur’s Gate 3’s couch co-op option sounds excellent, it will have limitations. Firstly, it’ll be limited to two players and require multiple controllers connected to the same device. Additionally, it would be best to consider your console’s or PC’s parameters when playing split screen because it’ll be more demanding.
Multiplayer on Consoles and Cross-Save Support
If you own a PS5, you’ll likely need to buy an active PlayStation Plus membership to use the online multiplayer. So carefully consider what platform you will play, but luckily the game will have cross-save and cross-platform gameplay! As a result, it doesn’t matter what device and platform your friends own. You can enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3 online multiplayer with them.
