Take-Two Interactive, owner of Rockstar Games and the publisher behind the Grand Theft Auto series, is filing a legal action against Payer Auctions. The online marketplace is accused of facilitating unauthorized transactions involving GTA V assets.

The company’s suit was filed on March 4, 2025, in California. Take-Two accuses Payer Auctions of facilitating the sale of hacked game accounts, assets, and virtual currency, all allegedly acquired by illegal means. These include hacking tools and exploits that interfere with the game’s balance and integrity.

Rockstar Owner, Take-Two Interactive’s Allegations Against PlayerAuctions

According to a report from Twitter user and Rockstar insider Ben, Take-Two claims that the online marketplace known as Payer Auctions hosts unauthorized listings of various in-game assets and services.

One of the few allegations is the selling of modded accounts. These accounts are reportedly altered to grant players exorbitantly high in-game levels, vast amounts of in-game currency, and access to content typically earned through regular gameplay.

Furthermore, the report states that Take-Two alleges that the online shop also offers money drop services. This is a type of activity where someone drops large sums of money that they can transfer to other players.

Another allegation made by Take-Two is that Payer Auctions also offers boosting services to players. It’s an activity where other experienced players would take control of someone else’s account to illegitimately make progress.

Take-Two asserts that PlayerAuctions profits significantly from these transactions, allegedly earning millions in revenue annually. On top of that, the company claims that the online marketplace “goes to great lengths to lull its users into buying illegitimate GTA V content from its sellers, including by offering “after-sale protection” –i.e. Refunds – if the hacked accounts they purchase are detected and banned by Take-Two’s anti-cheat systems.”

The report also states that PlayerAuctions has ignored multiple cease-and-desist orders, necessitating legal action from Take-Two to protect its intellectual property and maintain a fair gaming environment.

PlayerAuctions’ Other Controversy

Take-Two’s lawsuit is not the first for PlayerAcutions. Notably, Roblox Corporation filed a similar lawsuit against PlayerAuctions last month. The company accused the platform of illegally profiting from unauthorized sales of in-game assets and services.

The lawsuit indicates an intensifying crusade on third-party marketplaces that profit from game exploitation. This underscores the company’s commitment to preserving the integrity of its games.

Furthermore, protecting its player community from unauthorized and potentially harmful activities. The gaming industry continues to grow each year. Along with it, publishers are becoming increasingly vigilant in safeguarding their intellectual property and ensuring fair play for gamers.
