In the guide, you can learn about the school of wizardry and witchcraft’s essential structure and how your choice will influence the gameplay. Also, we’ll shortly explain what each house represents and all methods to get sorted in Hogwarts Legacy. You can determine your house right now, but more on that later!
Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world introduced in the Harry Potter books. It’s quite easily one of the 2023 most highly-anticipated games. The game takes place at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s. Players can create their Wizard or Witch and explore the magical open world, attend classes, fly on magical creatures, fight casting spells, make potions and much more.
Hogwarts Houses
Hogwarts Legacy Houses are more than just an organisation tool. The houses Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw reflect students’ personalities, strengths and even destinies. The Hogwarts houses are living and learning communities for students. They share dormitories within the same house, gather points for their house, and each house has its own quidditch team competing for the Inter-House Quidditch Cup. Let’s take a look at each Hogwarts Legacy house.
Gryffindor
Godric Gryffindor founded Gryffindor house. He valued bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. Its emblematic colors and animal are lion, scarlet and gold. Its representative gemstones are rubies. In the picture below, you can see Gryffindor’s common room located on the 7th floor. The entrance is behind the portrait of “Fat Lady”. Warm and red colors dominate in this fire-themed interior. The dormitory is always busy, with students chatting on the comfortable sofas. An energetic, vibrant atmosphere will easily cheer you up!
Hufflepuff
Helga Hufflepuff respected patience, loyalty, hard work, dedication and fair play. Her house’s emblematic animal is a badger and colors yellow and black. Its representative gemstone was yellow diamonds. The picture below presents Hufflepuff’s common room. The dormitory reminds me of the earthy-themed burrow, fresh and lively thanks to many plants and giant leaves hanging from the ceiling. The rich, warm lights, carpets and carved wood columns create a cosy interior for students, perfect for long learning sessions. The common room is located in the same corridor as Hogwarts kitchens, just behind the stack of large barrels.
Slytherin
Salazar Slytherin was well known for his emblematic serpent in emerald green and silver and representative gemstone, emerald. He highly valued ambition, leadership, self-preservation, cunning and resourcefulness. The picture below shows Slytherin’s common room with its high ceilings and green stone columns that create a water-themed interior. Calm colors and dim lights make it a perfect place to relax after a stressful day in school. To get there from a doorway off the Entrance Hall, head down to the dungeons and look at the bare stretch of a wall. You’ll see a magical snake shadow revealing the door as you get closer. Fun fact the Slytherin common room is located under the Black Lake.
Ravenclaw
Lastly, we have Rowena Ravenclaw. She admired intelligence, knowledge, curiosity, creativity and wit. Its representative gemstones are sapphires. The emblematic colors and animal are eagle, blue and bronze. In the picture below, you can see Ravenclaw’s common room. It is a classy, airy interior with a lot of space, wooden details, and night sky paintings on the ceilings. Oversized windows provide plenty of natural light, waking your brain to solve even the most challenging riddles and Hogwarts mysteries. It’s located in one of the towers on the western side of the castle. Climb the spiral stairs to the 5th floor, and behind the doors with an eagle-knocker is Ravenclaw common room.
Which Hogwarts Legacy House should you choose?
At the beginning of the game, players have four options – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw – and they should choose based on their personal preference or a story they want to tell. The reason is that the house will presumably not influence the main story. However, the NPC characters will recognise your selection and treat you based on it. When choosing a house, players should reconsider four main factors:
- All students in Hogwarts Legacy wear accessories, colors and emblems of their house. For example, if you don’t like red, you probably shouldn’t choose Gryffindor.
- If you are a roleplayer at heart, you presumably have your favourite characters from the original Harry Potter series. Sharing the same house with those intriguing characters might be a great background story for your protagonist.
- Players have access only to a common room of their chosen house. If you are a fan of any themed common room and like any of the elements they represent, you could also reconsider it as a deciding factor.
- Lastly, companions also belong to specific houses, and because quests can be completed in different orders, it’s up to you how quickly you’ll meet them. Maybe you want to share the same house with your favourite travelling buddy. In that case, companion choice will influence your Hogwarts house choice.
- Slytherin: Sebastian Sallow
- Hufflepuff: Poppy Sweeting
- Ravenclaw: Amit Thakkar
- Gryffindor: Natasi Onai
- It’s easier to interact with the same hose NPC characters because you regularly meet them and hang around the common room together.
How to choose Hogwarts Legacy House? How to get sorted?
Firstly, each Hogwarts student proceeds through a sorting ceremony, a tradition that assigns them to one of four houses founded by four powerful wizards and witches. I’ll try not to spoil too much about the sorting ceremony but still give you some helpful tips. However, we know two methods. How to choose Hogwarts Legacy House?
So the time has come. Deputy Headmistress Matilda Weasley just placed the sorting hat on your head, and it sees everything your personality, your desires and even your future. During the sorting ceremony, players will have a short conversation with the sorting hat, resulting in a proposed house for your protagonist. The sorting hat will ask you two questions:
- You come here with preferences and preconceptions – certain expectations.
- I can’t wait to start classes
- I can’t wait to Explore
- I detect something in you. A certain sense of -hmm – what is it?
- Daring
- Curiosity
- Loyalty
- Ambition
The first choice does not affect which house sorting hat will pick for you, but the second question is crucial. If you pick the Daring option, you’ll be sorted to Gryffindor. Curiosity will earn you a place in Ravenclaw house, the Loyalty should pick players interested in Hufflepuff, and the Ambition is connected to Slytherin. Players can accept a proposed house or choose a different one. So you’ll have complete control over it.
However, if you would like to add a little randomness to your decision, you can currently determine your Hogwarts Legacy House. All you need to do is create an account on Wizarding World and connect it with WB Games Account. Then complete the enjoyable and short Sorting Ceremony quiz. The detailed guide on how to do it you can find here.
Hogwarts Legacy House exclusive quests:
In Hogwarts Legacy, players can enjoy four house-specific quests. Each one is unique and full of engaging lore to explore. During those quests, you can feel like a true representative of your house, which makes those quests even more valuable. For each hose, those quests are:
- Gryffindor: The Hunt for the Missing Pages
- Hufflepuff: Prisoner of Love
- Ravenclaw: Ollivander’s Heirloom
- Slytherin: Scrope’s Last Hope
