How To Beat Sato Genta (The Betrayers) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Discover all three assassination locations for Sato Genta in Assassin’s Creed Shadows The Betrayers quest.

The Betrayers questline in Assassin’s Creed Shadows revolves around eliminating seven traitors who helped cause the death of Oda Nobunaga in favor of Akechi Mitsuhide. One of the betrayers, Sato Genta, has taken refuge at the well-defended Nobutada estate and can be particularly tricky to assassinate.

Eliminating him will award you with 2,000 XP, 2 Mastery Points, Sorrowful Surrender — Epic Katana, and Critical Chance on Consecutive Kills — Rare Engraving.

Sato Genta Location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Depending on the time of day, Sato Genta’s location in Azuchi can vary. Hori Hidemasa’s intelligence says that:

• He is in Omi.
• He provides security for Azuchi Castle harbor.
• He sleeps at Nobutada estate in Azuchi Castle.

Despite how the information reads, Nobutada Estate isn’t inside Azuchi Castle but lies southwest of it near the Sokenji Temple. Azuchi Castle harbor is the Military Harbor directly west of Azuchi Castle. 

How to Assassinate Sato Genta in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

There are three areas where you can kill Sato Genta: the Military Harbor, Nobutada estate, and the route between the two. During the day, you can eliminate him at Azuchi Castle harbor. This area is the most fortified of the three.

After sundown, you can sneak into the Nobutada estate, where he sits alongside several civilians and guards. The easiest time to assassinate him is at sundown, when he leaves the Military Harbor and walks to Nobutada estate alone.

Outside Military Harbor

If you happen to find yourself in the Military Harbor’s vicinity at sundown, you can stake out the entrance and wait for Sato Genta to start walking home. Remember to use the Observe skill to mark him out beforehand. Hide behind a nearby tree or in a bush.

When he walks past you, sneak up behind and assassinate him. Since you can’t change the time of day in Shadows, it may be more convenient to eliminate Sato Genta at Nobutada estate.

Nobutada estate

Sokenji Pagoda viewpoint is the closest fast-travel location to the estate. Take the eastern road out of the temple, and you will soon reach the Nobutada Estate as marked on the map image above.

• Climb the estate’s southern boundary wall using the grappling hook and jump onto its roof. 
• Use the Observe skill to spot Sato Genta. 
• Crouch and move to the right, positioning yourself directly above Genta.
• Hang down over the edge of the roof and assassinate Sato Genta. 
• Make your escape before the guards have a chance to react.
