How to Find and Pray at Kumano Hongu Taisha in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Nestled deep in the Kii region, Kumano Hongu Taisha is one of the largest shrines in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The shrine can provide an immersive experience tied to exploration and progression. Whether you’re completing a quest or simply exploring the region, Kumano Hongu Taisha is worth the journey to Hongu for its rewards and scenic environment.

Kumano Hongu Taisha Location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

To locate Kumano Hongu Taisha, travel to Kii, the southernmost area of the game map. You may not be too familiar with it if your main story progression is still in its early stages. However, since traveling to Kumano Hongu Taisha does not force you to fight any enemies, it can be done at any level. Kumano Hongu Taisha is situated directly east of Koyasan, northwest of Kumano Sanza, and right next to Hongu village.

Kumano Hongu Taisha Prayer Site One

Approaching Kumano Hongu Taisha from the southern entrance, cross the bridge and stick to the main path heading into the courtyard. Head straight until you reach the northeastern corner of the shrine, where the main path turns left. Turn right, and you will see the first prayer site in front of a sacred stone with two moss-covered stone lamps flanking it. Approach the stone and press the interact button (E on PC) when prompted. When your character finishes praying, head to the next prayer site.

After praying, turn around and continue along the main path. Reaching the path’s halfway point, you will spot the second prayer site inside the main shrine building on the left. Enter the structure and pay your respects at the shrine.

Kumano Hongu Taisha Prayer Site Three

Return to the main path, turn left, and walk past the cobbled walkway onto the dirt path. Reaching the periphery of Kumano Hongu Taisha, you will spot the final shrine on the left. Climb its stairs and offer a prayer.

Kumano Hongu Taisha Rewards

Praying at all three shrines in Kumano Hongu Taisha grants you 550 XP and one Knowledge Point. If you travel to Kii for the shrine, consider visiting the Takahara Kumano Shrine as well if you haven’t already since it is nearby.
