Amulet of Bhaal

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Amulet of Bhaal is a Story Item you can acquire in Act 3, which also doubles as a wearable necklace. It’s an accessory which you’ll want to specifically equip to whichever character you most often use to initiate combat. The main perk, called First Blood, will inflict Bleeding upon targets that have maximum hit points.

Therefore, you’ll want the party member wearing this to be the very first to hit any given enemy. The tooltip does not distinguish between melee or range. Consequently, you could equip it to a Fighter or Barbarian who rushes into battle first. Or to a Rogue or Ranger, who is likely shooting their bow from stealth to initiate combat.

Here are all the Amulet of Bhaal features in BG3:

  • Armor: Necklace
  • Proficiency Requirement: N/A
  • Weight: 0.05 kg
  • Value: 120
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Location: Looted from (or given by) Sarevok at the Murder Tribunal, Act 3.
  • Bonuses:
    • First Blood: On a hit, inflict Bleeding upon targets that have maximum Hit Points.
  • All Classes, Companions, and Races Can Use This Item

How to Get Amulet of Bhaal in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can only get the Amulet of Bhaal in Baldur’s Gate 3 by finding the Murder Tribunal in Act 3 and then either choosing to fight Sarevok or by becoming an Unholy Assassin. Discovering the Murder Tribunal is part of the quest-line you follow in order to confront Orin and gain her Netherstone. Moreover, Orin herself drops some good loot, including Bloodthirst and Crimson Mischief.

You can start the search for Orin in one of two ways. Either defeat Gortash first and she’ll give you the location and password for the discovering the Tribunal. Or follow and complete a quest called Investigate the Murders. That quest you can start by visiting the Open Hand Temple in Rivington. The end of Investigate the Murders will provide you with the same location and password you need.

Find The Murder Tribunal

To find the Murder Tribunal you will need to use the location and password. This will lead you to Candulhallow’s Tombstones armed with the password ‘Sicarius’. Candulhallow’s Tombstones is located to the northeast of Elfsong Tavern, and the front door can be lock picked if needed.

Head towards the back office room in order to find the secret entrance. You’ll see a ‘Butterfly on Skull’ painting hanging on the wall. Remove it to find a button underneath. Pressing it will reveal a secret door where you can use the password. Ignore the sign beyond this door and keep to the brick path on the right, which will reveal the door to the Murder Tribunal.

Murder Tribunal Antechamber

The Murder Tribunal is it’s own self-contained area. After arriving in the antechamber you’ll be stopped by guards who ask for proof of your right to be here. Essentially, they want to see proof that you have killed. Present them with a dismembered hand you should have picked up along the way. If you can’t, they will become hostile and you’ll have to fight.

Then head on inside to the Murder Tribunal audience hall. Fans of previous entries in the Baldur’s Gate series will meet a familiar face. You’ll have to make some critical story and character decisions here. Certain choices may instigate combat with members of the Tribunal. A different path will see you choosing to become an Unholy Assassin, which will play out in story cutscenes. Either choice can get you the Amulet of Bhaal.

Sarevok Fight Strategy

If you choose to fight Sarevok the combat can be challenging primarily because of the assistance he has. The Echos in the room with him will keep him protected with Sanctuary until you defeat all three. Additionally, the three Deathknights in the Antechamber will come running in to help if you did not fight them previously. Your obvious first targets should be the three Echos. Try to get at least one or two of them down before the Deathknights reach the battle.

Against the Deathknights, Ice Storm can proc Prone which is a nice crowd control. Disintegrate is a powerful direct hit spell that will take out a good chunk of their HP. If you have a party member who can summon a Djinni or Elemental, they can be really helpful here. Melee fighters may not do as much damage, but they can incapacitate the Deathknights by hitting them with a Disarming Attack. If it’s successful, grab that sword off the ground before they can pick it back up.

Baldur's Gate 3 Sarevok Fight Strategy

Taking on Sarevok Himself

The best way to deal with Sarevok at the beginning of the fight is to simply keep him out of it. Spells like Banishment, Grovel, and Hold Person are great for making him a non-issue while you kill the Echos and more slowly deal with the Deathknights. Once the Echoes are down you will finally be able to cause him damage, but it’s still best to take down the Deathknights first.

Finally, as soon as the Deathknight guards are down, you can finally focus on Sarevok. Like his guards, he has high AC but no resistances to anything magic. Spells will be most powerful against him, but at this point there is no reason not to have your melee fights also strike him with everything they have.

Once Sarevok is down, you can finally loot the Amulet of Bhaal from his fallen corpse.

FAQs About the Amulet of Bhaal in BG3

Q1: Can you get to Orin without the Amulet of Bhaal?

Q2: Is the Amulet of Bhaal a good accessory to use?

Answer: The Amulet of Bhaal is a moderately good accessory that will inflict bleeding on targets that have maximum hit points.
