The Amulet of Windrider provides Ride the Winds and Gust of Wind spells, and you can get it from Save Vanra Quest during Act 3 in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).
Amulet of Windrider
In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Amulet of Windrider is a very rare amulet that allows the wearer to cast two spells: Ride the Winds spell once every Long Rest and Gust of Wind spell once every Short Rest.
The first transforms you into a cloud, granting resistance to all damage, an advantage on Constitution, Dexterity, Strength Saving Throws, and reducing the size to Tiny. However, the wearer cannot attack, cast spells, or communicate in this form. It lasts until the wearer decides to end it.
Gust of Wind spell summons a powerful wind that disperses all clouds in the area. Creatures caught in the gust must succeed in a Strength Saving Throw or be pushed back 5 meters (17 feet) and become Off Balance. This ability is a decent crowd-control spell that can put multiple enemies off balance at once.
You can equip it to your character’s main hand weapon slot in the inventory, providing additional bonuses and buffs. This item has no requirements; any character, class, race, or companion can use it.

How to Get Amulet of Windrider in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get Amulet of Windrider, you must complete Save Vanra Quest in Baldur’s Gate Lower City during Act 3. This quest rewards you with a Legendary Rapier and the Amulet.
Start the Save Vanra Quest
Start the Save Vanra Quest by reaching Lower City in Act 3. Head north of Basilisk Gate, close to where you first enter Baldur’s Gate City. Commander Lora and a worried mother will argue inside the Flaming Fist Barracks. The Flaming Fist officer has memory issues, so offer your help to Lora.
The mother explains that her daughter, Vanra, is missing, last seen at the Blushing Mermaid. This bar is in the city’s center; head west from Basilisk Gate to find the tall wooden building behind the central wall. Use the map below for reference.
Head to The Blushing Mermaid
Talk to the bartender for details on the situation. He’ll guide you to Captain Grisly, who recently disarmed Lora. She was questioning locals about her missing daughter when she attacked the bartender with a knife.
Go upstairs to the room on the right where the captain is located. Be cautious during the conversation; they may attempt to mislead you. When the captain proposes gold to “silence” Lora, their insistence is suspicious. Opt for the dialogue choice “Absolutely not – I refuse to do your dirty work” to compel the Captain to unveil their true identity. This decision will also earn you +1 approval from nearly all companions.
Reveal Auntie Ethel disguise
Auntie Ethel is once again targeting children, irrespective of whether you eliminated her in Act 1. This time, she discloses her intention to create and train a new Hag, using little Venra as her instrument. Shockingly, she has consumed Venra, keeping her in her stomach until she’s prepared to transform. Auntie will eventually throw up her, giving rise to a new hag. If you destroy Auntie Ethel, the child will also die. Therefore, an immediate attack is not an option, and for the Windrider Amulet, Venra must survive. Auntie Ethel will escape, leaving you with two choices.
Available Solutions
Here are two ways to save the girl and obtain the Amulet of Windrider:
- Obtain the Hag’s Bane recipe from Old Garlow’s Place. Brew the potion using Dried Fey Flower and any Essence. Throw the potion at the hag, causing her to vomit up the safe and alive child. Going for the Hag’s Bane potion will coincide with Avenge the Hag Survivors or Help the Hag Survivors quests. Also, if you have it, the fight with Auntie Ethel will be easier.
- Chase down the hag to the Cellar Door in the same room. Destroy the special mushrooms the hag uses to transform Vanra and knock out Ethel to save the child.
Both approaches will ensure the girl’s safety, and you can obtain the Amulet of Windrider and Duellist’s Prerogative Legendary Rapier in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).
Find the Ethel’s Lair
Once prepared, proceed to the same room where you encountered the Hag. Access the Blushing Mermaid cellar through the door. Inside, leap onto the higher-level platform where your character will automatically pass an automatic investigation check, unveiling a concealed passage similar to the Tree House in Act 1. Go through (click behind it) the green swirling mirror to discover Auntie Ethel’s new lair.
Inside, Auntie Ethel has hidden the real Captain Grisly and her crew, placing them under the influence of another Hag’s spell. You have two options: engage in combat to obtain the Salty Scimitar(rrr), or use the Whispering Mask and stealthily move past them to the room on the left. If you successfully pass an automatic perception check beside the wooden wall door, you’ll discover a lever. Pull it to unveil a secret door, allowing the rest of your companions to enter. Once you defeat the hag, the spell will be lifted, ensuring the safety of you, the Captain, and her crew.
Destroy Mushrooms Solution – Defeat Auntie Ethel
The battle starts instantly, and in the turn queue, you’ll observe three mushroom images alongside Auntie Ethel and your team. Mushrooms are located in three corners of the chamber. If you lack the Hag’s Bane potion, it’s crucial to eliminate these mushrooms before knocking out Auntie Ethel. This action is necessary to rescue the girl and acquire the Amulet of Windrider.
Make sure to activate “Non-Lethal Attacks” in the passives tab of your team’s skill bar. It’s crucial to remember that if you outright kill Auntie Ethel while Venra is still inside her, the child will also perish. To render Auntie Ethel unconscious, rely on the “Non-Lethal Attacks” passive and use only melee attacks. Once the mushrooms are destroyed, reduce Ethel’s health to zero.
Hag’s Bane Solution – Defeat Auntie Ethel
However, if you have the Hag’s Bane potion, throw it at her, and she will throw up Venra. When the child is safe, you can kill the Auntie and don’t worry about the mushrooms.
Get Your Reward – Amulet of Windrider and Duellist’s Prerogative
After defeating Auntie Ethel, be sure to loot her body for the Ring of Feywild Sparks. A brief cutscene will unfold. If the child survived, it’s now time to claim your reward. Head back to Lora, who awaits in her house east of the Blushing Mermaid bar. In appreciation, she will reward you with a Legendary rapier in Baldur’s Gate 3, specifically the Duellist’s Prerogative, along with the Amulet of Windrider.
