What is Firestoker in BG3?

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Firestoker is a Hand Crossbow which requires Martial Proficiency to get the most out of it. Moreover, it also comes with the Burned Alive perk, which deals additional Piercing damage to targets that are already burning.
Overall, this crossbow is mid-tier, but it is accessible during Act 1 and relatively easy to get once you arrive at the Grymforge. Therefore, it could serve as a good backup ranged weapon for a spellcaster you don’t want to give your best physical damage equipment to.

How to Get Firestoker in BG3? Explained

To get the Firestoker crossbow in Baldur’s Gate 3 you need to find your way to the Abandoned Refuge within the Grymforge, then locate the room across from the docks where it waits in an Opulent Chest. First, to get to the Grymforge you first need to find your way into the Underdark. There are several points of entry into the Underdark from the main surface of the Act 1 map. We recommend using the Well in the Blighted Village. This will take you down into the Whispering Depths where you’ll have to face the Phase Spider Matriarch. Afterward, cast Feather Fall and jump down into the glowing green chasm.

Next, you’ll need to head west from your landing spot towards the Decrepit Village. There will be several Duergar and you can either negotiate passage on the ship or kill the Duergar and take the boat yourself. Consequently, it will carry you to the docks of the Abandoned Refuge in the Grymforge.

Finally, after the dialogue scene, move around to the other side of the docks. You can pick up the Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands from one of the dead Deep Gnomes you find there. There will also be a set of large double iron doors that require you to pass a 12 DC Sleight of Hand check.
Then, head inside and turn immediately to the right, to another locked door. This time you’ll have to pass an 18 DC Sleight of Hand check. Additionally, be prepared because once the door opens you’ll have to face a group of enemies. These are basic enemies and shouldn’t give you too much trouble.
Afterward, head over the Opulent chest at the foot of the Shar statue. Inside you’ll find the Firestoker crossbow.
How to Use Firestoker in BG3?
The best way to use the Firestoker hand crossbow in Baldur’s Gate 3 is by equipping it as a ranged weapon on a primarily melee class such as Fighter, Paladin, Cleric, or Barbarian. This is because the Firestoker is a mid-tier weapon in BG3 and not something you want to use as the main weapon on ranged classes such as Rogue or Ranger.
However, it is a good back-up ranged weapon for other classes. You could also equip it to spellcasting classes, though it would likely see little use.
Tips and Tricks for Firestoker in BG3
These are the best tips and tricks for finding and using Firestoker in Baldur’s Gate 3:

- You can also break the Opulent chest to get at the Firestoker crossbow inside.
