What is the Justiciar’s Scimitar in BG3?

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Justiciar’s Scimitar is an interesting weapon with a main bonus that can cause a Condition when you attack under the right circumstances. Shadow-Blinding is a feature where you have a chance to Blind your target if you attack with Advantage. Rogues and Ranges are probably best suited for this weapon, as their builds are often best suited for Stealth and initiating combat from Advantage.
Additionally, the Justiciar’s Scimitar also has a unique weapon ability. Shadowsoaked Blow allows you to strike an enemy, and add your proficiency bonus to the damage. Moreover, if the attack hits, it deals an additional 1d6 Psychic damage. This attack doesn’t break concealment and can be used once per short rest.
The most effective way to use this weapon would be to give it to a Rogue in Stealth. Once they are in position have them begin combat with a hit from Shadowsoaked Blow. Because the attack doesn’t break concealment, they should be able to attack again with a Melee Sneak Attack while still having Advantage.

How to Get Justiciar’s Scimitar in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the Justiciar’s Scimitar in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will need to find and make your way through the Gauntlet of Shar during Act 3, and find Lyrthindor, who is the last Dark Justiciar left. The Gauntlet of Shar is an underground temple full of puzzles and trials you will need to find your way past. For a full walkthrough see our Gauntlet of Shar Guide.
We’ll pick up the search for the Justiciar’s Scimitar across from the entrance to the Silent Library. Walk over the edge on the east side and you will find a Cragged Rock ‘ladder’ you can climb down. Then move down some rock ledges onto a platform area and on the other side you can find another Cragged Rock to climb down again. This will put you in a small area around the statue of Shar’s feet.

Find Lyrthindor in the Gauntlet of Shar
Once you’re down here you’ll find a small effigy back behind Shar’s feet. You can try to interact with it to find out more, if you can pass an Arcana check. Regardless, a rat should appear somewhere nearby. You can speak to it if you have the spell or potion for Speak with Animals. Additionally, you can also attempt to use Animal Handling to interact with it.
However, if your ultimate goal is to get the Justiciar’s Scimitar then you need to kill Lyrthindor. Which begins with attacking the rat. At this point rats will begin to appear in waves. They don’t have much HP but some are Necrotic and some are Soporific rats. The Soporific rats can be especially annoying because killing them triggers an area of effect burst which has a chance of putting any nearby party members to sleep. However, it can also put nearby other rates to sleep, as well.
Eventually, after you kill the final rat, Lyrthindor will finally appear. A dialogue cut scene will trigger and you can speak to him, but ultimately you need to fight him, too. As a single enemy against your party of four, he shouldn’t be too much trouble. After defeating him, you can loot him for the Justiciar’s Scimitar.
How to Use the Justiciar’s Scimitar in BG3
In order to get the full usage of the Justiciar’s Scimitar, equip it in a character’s weapon slot. In order to use its Shadow Blinding ability you must make an Advantaged attack against an enemy. In order to use the other abilities associated with the Justiciar’s Scimitar, you must be proficient with the weapon.
Tips and Tricks of the Justiciar’s Scimitar in BG3
Make sure and equip the Justiciar’s Scimitar on a character that can make a lot of Advantaged attacks, such as a Rogue or a Ranger. This allows them to make the best use of its Shadow Blinding ability.
Due to a bug, the Shadow Blinding ability does not work on Honor Mode playthroughs, making the weapon less than ideal for any Honor Mode runs.
