This article will answer the question of whether Assassin’s Creed Shadows include social stealth as one of the mechanics in the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Ubisoft’s latest title for its iconic franchise. The game takes players back to feudal Japan where they see the story through the lens of two protagonists Yasuke and Naoe. Each of these characters has their own fighting style. Yasuke prefers brute strength and usually engages in face-to-face combat. For stealth missions, you will be playing mostly as Naoe.
While the game introduces a few new gameplay mechanics, it unfortunately does not include the iconic social stealth feature. This mechanics has been a hallmark of the series since its inception. However, the game will still include traditional stealth mechanics.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Does Not Have Social Stealth
The social stealth mechanic is one of the beloved features in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While it doesn’t show up in all the installments, long-time fans are quite fond of this type of gameplay. This mechanic allows players to blend in with the crowd and conceal themselves to approach or escape a target.
As reported by Stephen Totillo via X, Ubisoft has confirmed since 2024 that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not include a social stealth mechanic.

Community Reaction
While the game keeps the stealth sequence in the game, a lot of fans were disappointed. It’s understandable considering how this mechanic used to be what made the franchise unique. However, some players were happy that Ubisoft was no longer focusing on this mechanic. They call it “a wonky unreliable gimmick,” and that those who complain are simply blinded by nostalgia.
While Assassin’s Creed Shadows does not include social stealth, there are other stealth mechanics in the game. You will most likely be doing most of the covert operations by playing as Naoe. There are a few added mechanics that add more challenge to stealth sequences. Stealth in Shadows isn’t just about staying out of sight. It’s also about mastering the environment. One example is how you can use shadows to conceal yourself and avoid detection. You can do this by putting out torches or any other sources of light to widen the dark areas and move around. Other options include hiding in tall grass or underwater.
