Assassin’s Creed Shadows inherits the choices first introduced in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, allowing you to mold aspects of the narrative based on your choices. While you can’t change the endpoint of the story through your choices, you can change how you get from point A to point B by making different choices. 

One of the most important and personal choices in the game involves Naoe as she comes closer to the Golden Teppo target. In the Tea Ceremony quest, Naoe encounters both Orama and Wakasa. The former is dismissive in nature and berates the Assassin. Wakasa, however, is cool as a river, comforting with her words all throughout the conversation. The woman invites you over to the Osaka Castle as well, sealing the conversation. As the tea party commences, it is time to make the difficult choice: should you confront Wakasa or Otama? Who is the killer? Who is the Golden Teppo? 

To put things bluntly, Wakasa is the killer and the Golden Tempo. She is the target you’re looking for. While chasing Wakasa is how the story eventually unfolds, picking Otama takes you through the same story beats in an alternate way. Confronting Wakasa in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Confronting Wakasa is the correct choice and takes you straight through the main story beats. As you confront her at the end of the Tea Party, Wakasa offers to handle matters discreetly and invites you to her home. As you snoop about her home, you’ll find the weapon that incriminates her as the Golden Teppo. The Golden Teppo will try to weasel her way out of it, trying to strike a deal for her life. Finish her off to complete the assassination. This is the easier of the two choices, and we recommend picking this one.

Confronting Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Otama is not the Golden Teppo, and confronting her complicates things a bit. Otama is frightened and makes a run for it across the streets. You then have to chase her down and put her down for good. As you kill her, you will learn that Otama was not the Golden Teppo, and you will be directed back toward Wakasa. Wakasa, however, is now on guard and will retreat to Osaka Castle. You then have to sneak into the castle and assassinate her as part of the “Defensive Position” mission.
