In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players face many decisions that can alter the course of the story or change how they perceive it. One such choice you have to make is in The Wheel Unmasked mission, where you have to decide whether to kill or spare Lady Oichi. This mission reveals that Lady Oichi is a member of the Shinbakufu, presenting two distinct choices, kill her as Naoe, or spare her as Yasuke.

At first, this decision might seem simple. Why spare a Shinbakufu member when they are responsible for Naoe’s father’s death? However, when you learn about Lady Oichi’s reason for becoming The Wheel, the choice becomes far more difficult.

What Happens if You Choose To Spare Lady Oichi in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Before you are given the choice, there is a small discussion between the protagonists and Lady Oichi. Yasuke, being the noble samurai he is, takes a seat for a civil discussion, and Naoe, begrudgingly, does the same. As Yasuke demands an explanation, Lady Oichi states that everything she did was for the people of Omi. Due to poor harvests, she had to take loans from a moneylender, which eventually led to her joining the Shinbakufu.

Naoe still shows resentment toward her and insists that blood must be paid with blood. Both Kuma and Lady Oichi bow in forgiveness, showing their sincerity, and this is where you get to make the choice. If you choose to spare her, Yasuke tells Naoe that if they cannot build a world without mercy, they will become the very thing they seek to overthrow. Naoe then throws a shuriken at the wall behind Lady Oichi and storms out of the room in anger.

After a brief cutscene, Lady Oichi tells Yasuke to seek Lord Mitsuhide and gives him Nobunaga’s Myth Slayer katana. Yasuke then leaves to find Naoe, who is looking at the horizon, waiting for him. The two then share a heartfelt conversation with some humor in between.

What Happens If You Choose to Kill Lady Oichi in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

This time, if you choose to attack Lady Oichi as Naoe, she brandishes her katana and sprints forward with the intent to kill. However, Kuma steps in between both and takes the hit for his master. Naoe gets visibly frightened due to her action and blames Lady Oichi in anger, saying it is always the poverty-stricken who pay for the crimes of the rich. After this, Yasuke steps in, and Naoe leaves.

The next morning, Yasuke visits Lady Oichi and asks for a reason for hiding the truth. Firstly, she admits to showing little wisdom and informs that Kuma will live. Lady Oichi also explains she didn’t know how Yasuke would react and feared Naoe’s wraith. Yasuke says that Naoe’s anger is justified due to how terrible the Shinbakufu is and asks for information. The cutscene plays the same, with Yasuke receiving the katana and having a conversation with Naoe.

You Should Spare Lady Oichi in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

There is no real difference between both choices, as Lady Oichi survives either way. However, if you choose to attack as Naoe, Kuma takes the hit, leaving Naoe guilty and angry. On the other hand, sparing Lady Oichi keeps the situation calm, and Naoe doesn’t stay angry for long. If you’re planning to romance Lady Oichi as Yasuke, then sparing her is the right choice.
