The First Descendant’s new major patch includes a brand-new episode Void Chaser which offers new content related to the Void and Colossus and a new main quest. The Void Vessel Investigation Operation is filled with new powerful threats that use Anti-Void Shields and Arche Barriers. Engaging in a combat with such enemies will require more firepower to eliminate them easily.

Fortunately, with this new update, there is also a new Ultimate Weapon called Hammer and Anvil that can help you melt the bigger enemies both from a range and up-front. Acquiring Hammer and Anvil and enhancing it with the best Modules will allow you to melt the enemies like they are nothing. In this build guide for Ultimate Hammer and Anvil in The First Descendant, we will tell you the best modules for both starters and advanced to make the most out of this weapon.

Best Ultimate Hammer and Anvil Build Guide in The First Descendant

The new Ultimate Hammer and Anvil weapon is an Ultimate Shotgun that offers a versatile play style. One of the main reasons for this weapon being super effective in versatility is its unique ability. The Multiple Barrels is the unique ability of Hammer and Anvil and it switches the weapon’s barrel upon aiming, allowing you to shoot in Hammer Mode or Anvil Mode. The Hammer Mode allows you to shoot Kuiper Shells from the Smoothbore Barrel at the top of the gun. While using this mode, shooting at enemies from close range will allow you to mostly one-hit enemies, even the bigger ones. The Anvil mode allows you to shoot Gyrojet Explosive Rounds from the Rifled Barrel at the bottom of the gun. While using this mode, shooting at enemies from a medium distance will allow you to deal extensive damage.

You can run around with Hammer and Anvil spamming the pellets from a distance to detonate explosions and eliminate all enemies in a few seconds. However, even though this weapon provides a unique versatility for a Shotgun weapon, its overall damage feels a little lackluster compared to other Ultimate Shotguns like Smithereens and Executor.

How to Get Ultimate Hammer and Anvil in The First Descendant

Hammer and Anvil shotgun stats

The Ultimate Hammer and Anvil will require you to reach Mastery Rank Level 15 before you can craft it with Magister Anais in Albion. Additionally, once you collect all of the needed materials, you will have to pay a 100,000 credit/gold fee. Finally, it will take 4 hours of research time for the Hammer and Anvil to be researched completely.

To Craft Ultimate Hammer and Anvil, you will need the following materials:

  • Hammer and Anvil Polymer Synctium
  • Hammer and Anvil Synthetic Fiber
  • Hammer and Anvil Nano Tube
  • Hammer and Anvil Blueprint

To find all of the materials for crafting the Ultimate Hammer and Anvil you will need to run various missions in the Void Vessel. It is the newly added dungeon and you have to look for the Amorphous Materials that have a chance of dropping the crafting materials. Moreover, you’ll need to return and rerun these missions in order to farm materials for duplicates that will further upgrade your weapon.

Best Modules for Ultimate Hammer and Anvil in The First Descendant

The Rifling Reinforcement, Action and Reaction, Charge Amplification, and Fire Rate UP are the best modules for the Ultimate Hammer and Anvil weapon. Rifling Reinforcement will increase the overall Firearm ATK. Action and Reaction will further increase the Firearm ATK and reduce the recoil. These two modules should be your go-to while making a proper build for more damage output. For even more Firearm ATK, equip the Charge Amplification. It will decrease the Critical Hit Damage, but we are not focusing on critical damage for this build.

Now, the next essential aspect of this weapon to focus on is the fire rate. The best way to increase it is by putting on the Fire Rate UP module. Doing so will allow you to shoot at enemies more quickly.

Best Weapon Rolls for Ultimate Hammer and Anvil in The First Descendant

Now, getting the best weapon rolls for your Hammer and Anvil weapon can be a challenging task as you would have to farm the weapons for the perfect rolls. In the First Descendant, weapon stats are randomly generated for all weapons when they drop or are created via crafting. You can change (or re-roll) them through the “Weapon Readjustment” system. Each weapon has four random traits or options that can be rerolled (another RNG attempt) to find the ideal trait. These traits are random and so is their quality.

The best weapon rolls for Hammer and Anvil that you need to aim for are Firearm ATK, Toxic ATK, Bonus Firearm ATK (vs. Colossus), and Rounds per Magazine. The only reason we are going for the Toxic ATK roll so that you can do more Toxic elemental damage to enemies with Descendants like Freyna and Keelan. This is the only reason why we put modules like Toxic Enhancement, Toxic Conductor, and Toxic Gunbarrel into Hammer and Anvil so that we can deal more toxic damage to enemies.

Here are the best roles to look for while Readjusting Hammer and Anvil in The First Descendant.

  • Toxic ATK
  • Bonus Firearm ATK (vs. Colossus)
  • Firearm ATK
  • Rounds per Magazine

How to Upgrade Hammer and Anvil

To upgrade the Ultimate Hammer and Anvil weapon, you can increase module capacity, level transmissions weapon to your current level, readjust the weapon traits, or enhance the weapon’s unique ability. The First Descendant provides several different avenues for upgrading and improving your weapons by using their repair station Workbench. The Workbench is located in the same general area as Anais and weapons seller Deslin on the west side of Albion. Below are the various methods for upgrading weapons in the First Descendant:

  • Max Capacity UP: Increases the module capacity.
  • Level Transmission: Upgrades weapon level to your current level.
  • Weapon Readjustment: Changes weapon traits and perks.
  • Enhanced Unique Ability: increase ultimate weapons unique effect to max of 5.

Maximum Module Capacity

When upgrading weapon mods, be aware there is an increased cost and a max module capacity of 80. The material needed is Energy Activators, and you will get one of these after playing through the end of the campaign, or you can craft them with Anais. Therefore, you want to balance increasing mods and not attempt to max out everyone. A balanced approach to firearm ATK, critical chance, and critical damage is the best.

Weapon Transmission

Each time you craft an Ultimate weapon in The First Descendant, after collecting it from Anais you will find that it is a low Level 1 firearm. However, you can easily bring it up to your current weapon level by using the Weapon Transmission mechanic at the Workbench. Finally, you will need to reach Mastery Rank 3.

Weapon Readjustment

In The First Descendant, the Weapon Readjustment mechanic allows you to use the Workbench to re-roll your weapon stats. Moreover, you can re-roll all of your stats at once, or lock individual stats you like and only re-roll the ones you want to change. Finally, you will need to reach Master Rank 4 in order to unlock Weapon Readjustment at the Workbench.

Enhance Unique Ability

Each Ultimate weapon in The First Descendant comes with a unique ability that gives it a powerful effect and you can enhance the power of these abilities. This is another mechanic that you will use at the repair station Workbench, and it unlocks at Mastery Rank 5.

However, unlike Weapon Transmission and Weapon Readjustment, there is no unique crafting material you will need to create and use. To enhance Hammer and Anvil’s unique ability, you will have to get a duplicate, requiring you to repeat the farm for materials and research of the weapon. Then, take that Level 1 duplicate to the Workbench and sacrifice it to upgrade the Multiple Barrels ability to a stronger version.

How To Use Ultimate Hammer and Anvil

Hammer and Anvil is an Ultimate Shotgun that comes with relatively low rounds per magazine. The rounds per magazine can be managed with modules like Expand Weapon Charge. However, running out of ammo in the middle of a swarm can be an instant death for you while using Hammer and Anvil. To tackle this problem, the best method is to use Gley Descendant. With Gley’s Increased Sensory ability, you will get infinite ammunition allowing you to spray the pellets at enemies without any worry of running out of ammo from the magazine.

Moreover, it is best to learn the two modes of Hammer and Anvil. The Hammer Mode shoots Kuiper Shells which are only effective at close range. For the Anvil Mode, shoot from the medium range to release Gyrojet Explosive Rounds that explode after a duration dealing high damage and slowing down enemies. Descendants with high mobility like Bunny and Keelan are also fun with this weapon.
