The Way of the Blacksmith is an essential quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, requiring you to find Heiji, the blacksmith, and unlock forging. 

The Way of the Blacksmith is one of the early quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. You will receive the quest once you unlock the hideout. Tomiko sends you on a quest to find her friend Heiji, a broken blacksmith, to join the hideout.

While the quest briefly mentions that Heiji can be found in Sakai, this intel is insufficient to pinpoint his whereabouts. Locating Heiji by searching every nook and cranny of Sakai is a tedious task unless you know where to look for him. Heiji Location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Heiji can be found at the southwestern Izumi Settsu, located directly east of the Port of Sakai, where a group of enemies harasses him in a small alley behind a building. You can navigate through the rooftops from the port toward the central point to easily locate Heiji. Using the rooftops offers you a stealthy advantage to take out the foes.

Alternatively, you can also use scout objectives to narrow down your location—though this requires active scouts. Once you approach the quest area, use the focus mode to find the exact location of Heiji by following the small blue dot. Once you get there, fight off the enemies and save Heiji. Talk with Heiji to complete the objective and update the quest.

How To Unlock Forging in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Once Heiji joins the hideout, you can upgrade your weapons and armor. However, to use the feature, you must build a forge, which is your next objective in the Way of the Blacksmith quest. Build the forge by collecting the required resources to unlock forging, which can be accessed by interacting with Heiji, the blacksmith at the hideout. Additionally, you can also transmog your equipment once the quest is complete.
