Denji is not your usual shonen protagonist who thrives on morals and ethics, as every time we hope he can change to become a better person, we are served with more of his unpredictable actions.
2) Denji’s Dream With Pochita: A Silly but Heartwarming Chat
Denji’s bond with his pet chainsaw devil, Pochita, is one of the most heartfelt aspects of the series. However, their interactions are also filled with quirky humor. When Denji had a conversation with Pochita where he told him about a dream he had in life. It takes the fans off guard as he said his dream was about eating bread and jam while being able to share it with Pochita. Then he continues telling Pochita that he would want to flirt with a girl and have a nice time.
Again this leaves us in laughter as we never expected such a simple dream from the protagonist. Denji treats his devil companion like a childhood friend rather than a terrifying creature, making it even funnier, as the only response Pochita can give is barking.
3) Denji’s Puppy-Like Behavior Around Makima
After Makima had recruited Denji, they stopped in the middle to have some food. Denji was instructed that he was to be like a dog to Makima, and if he behaved well, the action would be rewarded. One of the funniest moments in the series was when she asked if he would want to be fed Udon, without a second of hesitation, he opened his mouth. And when she asked him if the food was tasty, his reply was a single “Woof.”
It is amusing how fast he accepted his fate of being someone’s dog in return for attention and care. Denji’s blind trust in Makima makes for some of the funniest and most pitiful moments in the series.
4) Denji’s Surprise Attack on Aki
When Aki was given the responsibility to look after Denji after joining the Public Safety Devil Hunters. They have an interesting interaction. We see Denji asking personal questions about Makima. And Aki is trying his best to remain mysterious while leading them to an alleyway. After beating Denji up, Aki tries to act cool and urges him to quit due to the job’s danger. The scene remains tense as Aki stays cold toward Denji, believing he joined only to get close to Makima.
The retaliation to this again throws a curveball to the audience as Denji runs towards Aki and kicks him hard between his legs. Because while fighting with men, Denji’s philosophy is hitting them where it hurts the most. Shocking us again with his unpredictable behavior.

We see Denji again as a victim of his actions. Power promises physical contact with Denji if he manages to save Meowy for her. It was her pet cat whom a devil had kept hostage. Denji falls for her lies completely—mostly because she offers him a reward he can’t refuse. The entire sequence is both ridiculous and hilarious as Denji, completely oblivious, rushes headfirst into danger and realizes far too late that someone has set him up.
She took him thinking that she would sacrifice him in exchange for her cat. If he did not have the power of the Chainsaw Devil, it would have been the last day for him. Later on, after he does in fact save the cat, it is time to fulfill the promise, which turns into a failure as Power lied about her physical appearance. Meaning that Denji would have to wait for his dream of being with a woman a little longer, as this was all manipulation.
6) Denji’s Funny Reaction After His First Big Victory
After his first major win as a Devil Hunter, one might expect Denji to have a deep, emotional moment of triumph. Instead, his first thought is about the simplest pleasure imaginable: touching a girl’s chest.
His excitement and disbelief at just the thought of achieving his goal make for a hilarious moment that perfectly captures his character. Unlike typical shonen protagonists who fight for noble causes, Denji is refreshingly honest about his degenerate motivations.
