Here is a beginner’s guide to playing 2XKO, including an overview of the basic mechanics and some tips and tricks.

Jumping into a fighting game like 2XKO can feel overwhelming, especially if you are new to this genre. Aside from the basic controls, each champion will have their own set of movesets that you need to memorize. On top of that, you can choose to play with a duo partner. This adds another layer of strategy and unpredictability.
You will need to learn how to coordinate with your partner, chain combos, and adapt to different compositions. With that said, here is a beginner’s guide for 2XKO. We’ll be talking about what you need to know before starting out the game.

How To Play 2XKO
Before anything else in this beginner’s guide, let’s talk about the basics and how combat and the different combos work in 2XKO. You will control two champions each match, unless you use a specific Fuse or are playing with a duo partner.
Blocking and Parrying

Blocking in the game is pretty straightforward. You simply hold the Back button to do a block. If you are standing, you block mids and overhead attacks like jump-ins. If you are crouching, you block mids and lows. This includes crouch attacks.
If you can activate a block just before an enemy attack, you can parry their blows. This lets your champion do a quick counterattack and knock them back a bit. It’s risky to pull this off, but if you can parry, this can potentially break your opponent’s combo.

Combos

Just like every fighting game, you can pull off combos in the game. 2XKO follows a three-button attack system:
- Light
- Medium
- Heavy
The order of the combos needs to be from Light to Heavy. This means you cannot do it in reverse. This is important to keep in mind, as it will reset your combo if you make a mistake. Additionally, you can combine crouching and standing attacks to add variety to your combos and make them unpredictable.
Keep in mind that some characters have exclusive movement options. For example, Ahri can do air dashes, Ekko has a forward-only air hop, and Breaum has no advanced air mobility. Make sure to practice the champions first and learn their unique movesets.
Gameplay Mechanics

Specials
2XKO made Specials simple with no complex mechanics to worry about. You only get a Special 1 and a Special 2. You can use these abilities once your Special meter is full. Keep in mind that the meter resets each round. This means you are incentivized to use it before the round ends.
Tags and Assists
A defining feature of 2XKO is the emphasis on teamwork, or playing with two champions if you are going solo. The game incentivizes you to make use of two champions and use their synergy to outsmart your opponent. Understanding how to properly use tags and assists will be crucial for both offense and defense.
Assists let your secondary champion or duo partner perform a quick attack. You can only use one at a time unless you use a specific Fuse that lets you do another one. Each champion has two types of assist moves:
- Neutral/Forward + Tag: One assist move.
- Back + Tag: Alternate assist move.
There is also a Comeback Assist that can only be used if your champions are knocked out. You can press Down + Tag to do a third assist. Using this move will cost a meter. However, if you are losing, you might as well use what you have. It’s a good way to clutch a comeback victory if you use it at the right moment.
Tags are tightly connected to assist in the game. When you call for an assist, you can press the button the second time to give them the stage. This means you swap out and let your duo do the fighting. Of course, if you are playing solo, this swaps your champions so you get to control a different one. There are different types of tags to keep in mind:
- Immediate Tag: Call an assist, then press tag again before their move finishes to swap almost instantly.
- Hard Tag: Holding the tag button will switch characters directly without needing to use an assist.
- Launcher Tag: Press Down + Tag during a combo to perform a launcher that automatically switches to your partner, giving you new combo opportunities.
Fuses

Fuses are unique perks that give you powerful effects in a match. You can choose one during the champion select. Some of these unique effects allow you to do two assists at once, while some lock you into playing on one champion but with enhanced stats. Keep in mind that you cannot change your Fuse mid-battle. Make sure you pick the right one that first suits your playstyle. If you want to know more, check out our 2XKO Guide on Fuses here.
Recovery Options
When your active champion takes damage, a portion of it will be converted into gray health. You can turn it back to green health by tagging out. With the right combo, you can extend fights by letting your duo do the fighting while you recover health before heading back to the field.
Break and Fury Break
Another mechanic you need to know in 2XKO is the Break System. The Break is a powerful tool that lets you break your opponent’s combo and potentially lets you do a counterattack or escape. Here is a quick rundown of what it can do:
- How to Use: Press Tag + Special (or a dedicated macro) when you take a hit to push your enemies away.
- Timing Matters: You can get punished if you don’t use this on time.
- Limited Use: You need to charge up your Break meter as you start with zero. You only gain a charge if you take damage, so it’s a rare and valuable resource to have.
On top of the usual combo breaker, there is also a Fury Break mechanic that only shows up when one of your champions gets knocked out. You will notice it when your Break meter turns red. Here is a quick rundown on the key difference of the Fury Break:
- Causes wall bounces, which can open new combo options you don’t normally have access to.
- While in Fury, you can dash cancel almost any attack, both on hit and on block.
- Attacks will deal more damage.
- Fury Break is still a combo breaker ability, letting you escape combos and do a counterattack.

Tips for Beginners in 2XKO

- Go through the tutorial section before starting a match. It’s always good to know the basics first before jumping into a real battle.
- If you are struggling with doing combos, equip the Pulse mode, as it will let you do auto combos by spamming only one attack button.
- If you want to focus on learning one champion at a time, equip the Juggernaut Fuse. This locks you into using only one champion, but with enhanced stats.
- Don’t forget to tag out when you are near knockout to regenerate gray health.
- Take your time learning the movesets of each champion. Don’t overwhelm yourself, as it will cause burnout, and you won’t be enjoying the game.
