1. Elden Ring
While it is not explicitly stated, Santa Monica Studios may have taken some inspiration from the Souls series in the God of War reboot. They moved away from the combo-heavy formula of the Greek games and instead opted for the Souls series’ dodge-and-attack formula. Because of this, Elden Ring is a great game to play after the Norse saga games, as they enhance this formula with some of the best bosses in gaming.
While Elden Ring does not have a diverse skill tree like God of War, it makes up for it by having better weapon and build variety.
2. Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry 5 is the closest thing to the Greek God of War games, as Santa Monica Studios based their combat system off the Devil May Cry series. From double jumps, weapon variety, flashy combos, and creative bosses, everything from the classic God of War games is present in Devil May Cry 5. Additionally, it can be argued that DMC5 does all of these things much better, as they had decades to refine and enhance this formula.
While Devil May Cry 5 isn’t anything like the Norse games, it is still a must-play for fans of the Greek saga.
3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Ubisoft took up the RPG formula in Assassin’s Creed Origins and has kept it since then. As a result, Odyssey features a refined version of this new formula. It plays similarly to The Witcher 3 and God of War, as there is a diverse skill tree and a higher emphasis on dodging. Additionally, this game takes place in Greece and features many Greek gods that players will definitely recognize, such as Hades.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey also features a diverse range of weapons. However, their moveset is not nearly as fleshed out as the weapons in God of War.
4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is easily one of the most underrated superhero games of all time. It embodies the essence of Wolverine’s character by taking direct inspiration from the Greek God of War games. As a result, Wolverine is allowed to wreak havoc upon hordes of enemies with a variety of different combos. These combos work exactly like in God of War and can be enhanced via the skill tree.
If you had fun with the old God of War games, then you will definitely love X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
5. Dante’s Inferno
Dante’s Inferno plays like the old God of War games and even has a similar setting. It is loosely based on Inferno and features the player character fighting demons in the depths of hell. The combat works just like God of War, with a double jump, different combos, and the ability to extend combos by jumping.
This game is extremely underrated, and a must-play for fans of both God of War and Devil May Cry.
