A pirate ship, or any ship really, is defined by its crew. In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the situation is no different. Your crew repairs the ship, mans the cannons, and assists you in combat. For this reason, effective management and placement of your crew is paramount.

However, deciding what role should be fulfilled by which crew member is no easy task. With each crew member having different abilities for different positions, it can be daunting to find a crew formation that works for you. Fortunately, this article can help ease the burden.

How Does Crew Formation Work?

Your entire crew is split into two halves: the Cannon Squad and the Boarding Squad. The Cannon Squad operates the ship’s weapons and works on its repairs while the Boarding Squad follows you into battle. The Boarding Squad itself is split into four parts.

Each of these four miniature squads has four members and a Squad Leader. Each crew member has a special ability that activates if they are assigned as a Squad Leader. Some of these abilities are incredibly powerful and can decide the result of a battle on their own. With that said, here are the 5 best Squad Leader traits in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii:

5. Nishida: Indomitable Will Bonded

Nishida, remaining ever loyal to Majima, makes a return in Pirate Yakuza. His Squad Leader Trait is to greatly boost Health Recovery and add Shock Resistance. Being a healer, it is expected that his trait would boost healing, and the added resistance to Shock is a welcome bonus.

The boost he provides to healing, however, is outright staggering. It enhances your team’s longevity by miles and is one of the reasons why Nishida is the best Healer in the game.

4. Misaki: Succession of Will

Misaki is the daughter of Jason’s old partner Namioka. Moreover, her Squad Leader Trait is to boost Attack and to charge the Voltage Gauge faster. The Voltage Gauge is what allows you to use the skills of your support units.

These skills can turn the tide of battle in an instant and provide massive boosts. Since Misaki enables them to be used faster, her trait is an excellent one to have, despite her relatively lower attack boost.

3. Masaru Fujita: Marine Cuisine Bonded

The ship’s resident chef, Masaru, is more than capable in combat as well. His Trait is to greatly boost attack and Poison Resistance. A massive boost to attack like Masaru provides is already grounds for a top-ranking position. However, he grants you Poison Resistance on top of this.

Although Poison is a fairly niche condition, the increased resistance can be invaluable under certain circumstances and makes Masaru an invaluable Squad Leader.

2. Taiga Saejima: Veteran Bonded

Majima’s indomitable sworn brother also makes a return in this game, with one of the strongest abilities in the game to boot. His Trait is to greatly boost attack and defense and to increase Stun Resistance.

A massive boost to attack is already amazing to have. Saejima gives an equal boost to defense as well, in addition to increasing Stun Resistance. Stun is a much more common condition than Poison as well. All in all, Saejima’s position barely needs any explanation.

1. Jason Rich: Hunter’s Knowledge Bonded

Noah’s father, Jason, is one of the first crewmates you get. He also has the best Trait in the entire game. Jason’s Trait is to greatly boost attack and defence and to increase gun resistance.

Are any other words needed? Any player who has played the previous games will know about the terror of gun-wielding enemies. Resistance against guns is arguably the best defensive ability in the game. But Jason also gives the same boost to attack and defence as Saejima on top of this. This solidifies his Squad Leader Trait as the best in the game.
