Assassin’s Creed is a series that isn’t particularly famous for its villains. In fact, it can be said that the villains are one of the weaker parts of the franchise. That being said, there are still some fantastic and memorable villains in this franchise. So, we will rank the 5 best villains in Assassin’s Creed and mention what makes them so good.

Al Mualim masqueraded as Altair’s mentor and the leader of the Brotherhood of Assassins. While he did guide Altair towards the right path of being an Assassin, he also used the Assassins to aid the Templars. Eventually, Al Mualim gets his hands on the Apple of Eden and is confronted by Altair. After a long and arduous battle, Al Mualim is killed by Altair. For the first-ever major villain of the Assassin’s Creed series, Al Mualim certainly was a great one.

Assassin’s Creed 3’s Haytham Kenway is the best villain in the entire franchise, and for good reason. He is easily the most charismatic and charming character in the series, to the point he feels like a real person. His ideals, motivations, and goals are realistic. Haytham wishes for a better and just world for everyone and believes the ends justify the means. All of these factors make him the best Assassin’s Creed villain.

3. Charles Lee

Charles Lee is the leader of the Templars in Assassin’s Creed 3, and Haytham’s accomplice. He also embodies the charm and charisma that Haytham possesses, resulting in him feeling alive. He also believes in creating a world that is just and peaceful and believes that any sacrifices along the way will justify the outcome. Charles Lee and Haytham Kenway are the highlights of Assassin’s Creed 3 because of these reasons and are arguably the best villains in the franchise.

4. Cesare Borgia

The son of Rodrigo Borgia, Cesare desires power and control above all else by attaining the Apple of Eden. Although his motivations are very one-dimensional, his presentation is what makes him entertaining. He is a weak-willed man who is obsessed with control over everything, and his portrayal makes it believable. In Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, he is even willing to kill his own father to obtain the piece of Eden.

5. Rodrigo Borgia

In Assassin’s Creed 2, Rodrigo Borgia’s betrayal is what put Ezio on the path of becoming an Assassin after killing his father and brothers. Like his son, Rodrigo Borgia is also obsessed with power and control, specifically via the Apple of Eden. However, his efforts are thwarted by Ezio, and Borgia meets his demise later on in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood at the hands of his son. Rodrigo is an entertaining villain thanks to his brilliant portrayal and writing. These factors compensate for his one-dimensional and generic motivation.
