Discover 5 ways The Witcher 3 inspired Assassin’s Creed to take notes from its success and mechanics with our list.

It is no secret that Assassin’s Creed took many notes from CD Projekt Red’s success with The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. After Unity and Syndicate failed to meet their expectations, they rebooted the franchise with Assassin’s Creed Origins and onwards. So, we will list the 5 ways The Witcher inspired the Assassin’s Creed franchise and made Ubisoft overhaul their series.
1. Gameplay Mechanics

Ubisoft revamped the gameplay entirely in Assassin’s Creed Origins. They adopted different weapon types, which had their own rarity and unique damage values. Additionally, a level system was incorporated where players could not assassinate higher-level enemies and took more damage from them. Furthermore, a bigger emphasis was placed on the skill tree system. As all of these features are prominent in The Witcher 3, it is clear that Ubisoft took some inspiration.
2. Open World

While there have been some instances of open worlds in previous Assassin’s Creed games, Origins took the concept to a whole other level by introducing Ubisoft’s biggest open world yet. The open world is full of collectibles to find and gorgeous locations to explore, similar to The Witcher 3. It is easy to say they went in on the open-world aspect after being inspired by CD Projekt Red.
3. Dialogue Options

Assassin’s Creed never featured multiple dialogue options in the series, even in Assassin’s Creed Origins. This changed with the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, where Ubisoft fully embraced the Witcher formula they partially adopted. Players received many dialogue choices when they interacted with NPCs, and Ubisoft even added potential romance partners in this game.
It’s safe to say that this is another aspect Ubisoft adopted from The Witcher 3.
4. Side Quests

Ubisoft always had side quests in previous Assassin’s Creed games, but without mincing any words, they were not good. This changed with the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Origins, where Ubisoft finally added engaging side quests. Players were also incentivized to do these quests, as they provided useful exp and equipment that was needed to progress through the main story.
One of the major reasons for The Witcher 3’s success was its spectacular side quests, so it’s easy to say that Ubisoft was inspired by that game to improve their side quests.
5. Multiple Endings

Ubisoft also gave the freedom of multiple endings to players in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla. Players also had the freedom of getting different endings in The Witcher 3 based on their decisions, and it is no different in these two Ubisoft games. However, after mixed reception from fans, they removed the variation in endings in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
It is clear that Ubisoft definitely took some inspiration from The Witcher 3 in this aspect but decided to stick to their original identity later on.
