Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1: Start & End Time, Event Bonuses, Wild Pokemon, and More

Celebrate the festive season with Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1. Here’s all you need to catch Holiday-themed Costumed Pokemon and new Shinies.

Niantic kicks off the festive season with Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1. The event will run for 5 days, starting from December 17, at 10:00 AM to December 22, 2024, at 9:59 AM local time.

The first of the two-parter event will see the return of many Holiday-themed Costumed Pokemon, with Dedenne wearing holiday attire making its debut. The event also marks the release of Shiny Sandygast for the first time in Pokemon GO.

Event Bonuses in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1

The following bonuses will be active throughout the event:

  • Double XP from catching Pokemon.
  • Half hatch distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event.

Debuting Pokemon in Holiday Part 1

Dedenne wearing holiday attire will debut in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1 for the first time. The mouse Pokemon was released in November 2021 with the Festival of Lights event, and its Shiny version has been available since January 2023.

The Antenna Pokemon, wearing a festive Santa cloak, will be a sought-after prize for shiny collectors. Here’s how trainers can catch the Pokemon:

  • After defeating it in One-Star Raids.
  • Completing the Field Research task “Earn 2 Candies walking with your Buddy.” (Dedenne is also one of six possible rewards)
  • Using the Daily Adventure Incense.

Wild Encounters in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1

Many Ice and Fire-type Pokemon will spawn in the wild during the event. The list includes:

  • Alolan Diglett (can be shiny)
  • Alolan Sandshrew (can be shiny)
  • Litleo (can be shiny)
  • Delibird wearing a holiday ribbon (can be shiny)
  • Numel (can be shiny)
  • Snover (can be shiny)
  • Swinub (can be shiny)
  • Darumaka (can be shiny)
  • Bergmite (can be shiny)
  • Sandygast (can be shiny)

Raids During Holiday Part 1

The event will rotate Raid Bosses with many Costumed Pokemon dominating the One- and Three-Star Raids.

One-Star Raids:

  • Pikachu wearing a winter carnival outfit
  • Psyduck wearing holiday attire
  • Dedenne wearing holiday attire
  • Sandygast

Three-Star Raids:

  • Stantler wearing a holiday outfit
  • Glaceon wearing an undersea holiday outfit
  • Cryogonal

Mega Raids:

  • Mega Latios (From December 12, 10 AM to December 19, 09:59 AM local time)
  • Mega Latias (From December 19, 10 AM to December 26, 09:59 AM local time)

All Raid Pokemon during the event are eligible to be Shiny.

Eggs in Holiday Part 1 Event

Players can obtain event-themed 7 km Eggs by opening Gifts. These special Eggs can hatch the following Pokemon:

  • Hisuian Growlithe
  • Pichu with summer flair
  • Spheal wearing a holiday scarf
  • Cubchoo wearing a holiday ribbon
  • Amaura
  • Charcadet

All Pokemon except Charcadet have a chance to be Shiny. With the ½ hatch distance bonus during the event players can hatch Eggs faster to collect Costumed Shiny Pokemon.

Field Research Tasks in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1

The following Event-themed Field Research Tasks can be completed:

  • Catch 20 Ice-type Pokemon – Cryogonal
  • Catch 10 Pokemon – Eevee wearing holiday hat
  • Catch 10 Ground-type Pokemon – Sandygast
  • Catch 10 Fire-type Pokemon – Alolan Marowak

The Seasonal Field Research Earn 2 Candies walking with your Buddy has six different encounters. One of the possible rewards is Dedenne wearing holiday attire.

Collection Challenges and Free Timed Research Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1

Players will be given an event-exclusive Timed Research which they must complete before the event ends to earn all rewards. In addition, the following Collection Challenges will be available:

Collection Challenge: Ice to Meet You

Players must collect Cryogonal, Swinub, Bergmite, and Alolan Sandshrew to earn 2000 stardust and 15 Great Balls as reward.

Collection Challenge: Hot to Go

Trainers must collect Sandygast, Darumaka, Litleo, and Alolan Diglett to earn 2000 stardust and 15 Great Balls.

Collection Challenge: Festive Friends

Collect Costume Dedenne to earn 10 Poke Balls and 10 Great Balls.

Paid Timed Research in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1

Players can purchase a $2 ticket to access an event-exclusive Timed Research. Rewards include:

  • 2 Premium Battle Passes,
  • 1 Incubator
  • 1,500 Stardust
  • Encounters with event-themed Pokemon

The Timed Research expires on December 27, 2024, at 8:00 PM local time.
