With new Pokemon teased in Pokemon GO: Dual Destiny, we speculate on 6 Pokemon GO debuts that fans would love to see next year.
Pokemon GO’s Dual Destiny loading screen featured some new Pokemon that sparked excitement among fans. The screen teases monsters like Rookidee, Corviknight, and Fidough. Their appearance suggests their lines will make their debut this season.
Few Pokemon from the Sinnoh and Kalos regions are yet to appear in the game, but it’s the Galarian and Paldean Pokemon that remain the most underrepresented.
As we head into 2025, here are six Pokemon debuts players would love to see in Pokemon GO:
1. Mimikyu
Although Niantic released a Pikachu donning a Mimikyu costume during Halloween events, the Ghost and Fairy-type fan-favorite has yet to appear in its own right. Speculation about its debut resurfaces every Halloween season, and perhaps 2025 will finally be the year Niantic introduces this spooky Pokemon.

2. Honedge
The Honedge line, especially Aegislash, is another long-requested Pokemon. As a Steel and Ghost-type, Aegislash has the potential to shake up the GO Battle League thanks to its strong typing and stats. While Gholdengo already exists in Pokemon GO and holds the Steel and Ghost spotlight, it has limited availability. Gholdengo’s rarity can leave room for the Honedge line to shine.
3. Urshifu
Yet another fan-favorite, Urshifu’s arrival could create a lot of excitement in the community. The Wushu Pokemon has two forms – Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style, each of which has special Gigantamax forms.
The Gigantamax feature was recently released with the Max Out update, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to see Urshifu debut in Gigantamax Battles.
Another way this line could debut would be through events similar to Poipole’s Special Research. The Research could award Kubfu, Urshifu’s pre-evolution, which can be later evolved.

4. Ash-Greninja
The release of Ash-Greninja could create unparalleled hype among fans. While normal-form Greninja is already a formidable Water-type attacker with Water Shuriken and Hydro Cannon, its new form could significantly raise its power level.
In the new generation of games, Game Freak made adjustments to the Battle Bond ability. Upon defeating an opponent, Battle Bond Greninja now receives a stat boost rather than a form change. It’s unclear whether the developer is nerfing an overpowered Pokemon or phasing out this form.
In Pokemon GO, Niantic could introduce the popular form with Mega Evolution-like mechanics. This would satisfy the community and bring back a beloved Pokemon with a bang.
5. Mega Mewtwo X and Y
Mewtwo is one of the most powerful Pokemon in the game and the only Legendary with unreleased Mega Evolutions. Its two Mega forms, the Psychic and Fighting-type Mega Mewtwo X and mono Psychic-type Mega Mewtwo Y, have the potential to rewrite the PvP meta.
Beyond Mewtwo, there are still five Mega Evolutions – Sharpedo, Camerupt, Metagross, Gallade, and Audino waiting to be released. The Mega Evolution mechanic is set to return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A in 2025, so we could see brand new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon GO as well.
6. Arceus
The god of all Pokemon, Arceus, is somehow still not a part of Pokemon GO. Its debut would no doubt be the most monumental moment for the game yet. Like most other Mythical Pokemon, Arceus could be released as a Special Research, or in a more fitting manner, Niantic could do something new and extraordinary to mark its arrival.
Arceus is known to change into any of the 18 different types, thanks to its ability, Multitype. Its type changes based on the Plate it is holding, which gives the STAB boost to its signature move, Judgement.
