2024 didn’t have a lot to offer to sports game fans. But if you are one, don’t miss out on these titles before the year comes to a close.
2024 brought us several enjoyable video game titles, but the sports genre was relatively empty this year. There aren’t many sports titles each year, but we tend to get the regular ones to keep things going.
Some unique titles came to light for people who wanted to mix “sports” with some casual arcade fun. Games like Quidditch Champions and Foam Stars can be counted under this list. However, for now, we are going to strictly stick with “sports” games in the most conventional way.
Note that we are not claiming them to be the best games out there. But because of how scarce the sports games were this year in the industry, our options are fairly limited. The list also contains the writer’s opinions and is not ranked in any way.
6 Best Sports Games of 2024
1. WWE 2K24
WWE returned with their game’s annual edition this year and surprised fans with a few new features. One of the new things that they brought to the table was the ability to throw props. That’s right! No matter what your character was holding, he or she could throw it at the opponent.
This ability to do ranged damage really stood out for this installment in the series. For me, it was a fun experience in couch co-op. So, if you also like to rumble it out in video games, check out WWE 2K24. This is probably the last game in the series to be released on last-gen consoles.
2. EAFC 25
Despite FIFA’s licensing agreement with Electronic Arts ending, the latter continued its streak of delivering soccer games to fans of the sport. The game is officially called FC, a trend started last year with the release of EAFC 24.
This year, however, they are bringing a new mode for players. EAFC 25 introduces a 5v5 Rush mode. Up to three friends can play together, controlling their favorite Player Item. The game’s tactical foundations have also been enhanced, as per their claim.
While some fans may still be upset about one thing or another, EAFC 25 is still our best bet for a soccer game this year.
3. EA Madden NFL 25
Fulfill your big NFL dream by playing Madden ’25. The game was released on both previous and new-gen consoles but introduced some features to keep things interesting for existing fans.
For example, the game introduces FieldSENSE powered by BOOM Tech, which gives us a new physics-informed, dynamic tackling system. You will be able to feel it through your screen when the collisions happen because of the realistic reactions that the models carry. There is much more that you can explore with this technology in the game, so feel free to do so yourself!
4. College Football 25
Live through a college football experience with EA Sports’ College Football 25. The football game took a turn from Madden and landed on College Football. Now, you not only get to play as NFL stars but also have the liberty to play through a roster of rising and future stars of American Football.
EA has added a Road to Glory feature in the game along with some other features that you may enjoy as a sports fan. The game also gives you a Homefield Advantage against rivals and features a Wear & Tear system that demands better team management.
5. NBA 2K25
NBA 2K25 is back with another classic basketball experience. People who wait for this game each year can now buy it from designated official stores. NBA happens to be the only decent basketball game in the modern era that fans can enjoy. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of new features added to the latest edition of the franchise.
However, things like ProPLAY might make you feel like the game is worth your time, especially if you are somebody who enjoys playing NBA each year. Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyLEAGUE are available as offline features, while others will require an internet connection for you to access.
6. EA F1 24
The latest F1 game came out in mid-2024. The series has been going on for quite some time, and EA treated the fans to this new title this year, unlike some other titles that they release in advance. The game has some key highlights, including the on-track racing. The high-speed laps make you feel like a true F1 driver, chasing winds.
The Driver Career mode will put you in the shoes of a driver of your own and let you live out the thrill and glory of racing on an F1 track. There are also Fanzones to support your favorite team and driver and collaborate with other fans to achieve a certain goal.
