Discover the best beginner Automaton Build in Helldivers 2 that will help you eliminate all kinds of bots in your early-level progression.
Automaton is one of the enemy factions in Helldivers 2 that pose a threat to Super Earth. You will encounter Automaton in the corresponding missions on the Galactic Map. There are various kinds of bots and machines in the Automaton faction. It includes the small regular bots known as Troopers/Raiders and Brawlers, then a support caller bot known as Commissar, then the armored bots known as Scout Strider, Devastator, and Berserker, and then the big ones are Hulk, Tank, and Dropship.
The Troopers and Brawlers are not a big threat as they can be dealt with easily with almost any weapon. However, the Commissar can create problems for you as it is the only enemy-type of Automaton that can call Dropships for support. Each Dropship includes several special armored units of Automaton which can create severe problems. It is best to deal with the Commissar first whenever you see it. Moreover, the bigger and more armored bots can create serious chaos for your mission objectives. The only way for you to accomplish the Automaton missions is that you dive in fully prepared. Although the best equipment options unlock at higher levels, it does not mean there are no viable options for the players who have just started spreading democracy.
In this guide, we will be telling you the best loadout equipment for beginner Automaton build, including weapons, stratagems, armor, and booster in Helldivers 2.
Best Beginner Automaton build in Helldivers 2 Explained
Making the best beginner Automaton build in Helldivers 2 completely relies on what equipment you equip and bring on the Automaton mission. Without effective equipment, you will not be able to take out the bots effectively, which can result in extraction failure. With the best equipment on you, you can take out any size of bot effortlessly and efficiently, giving you more room to breathe and take out any threats before they get too close to you. Moreover, the build we share in this guide is effective for solo and group gameplay. So, if you want to take on a challenge against Automatons solo at an early level, you can do it with this build.
Focus of Beginner Automaton Build
Our Beginner Automaton build focuses both on DPS and accuracy because bots, especially the bigger sizes and tanks are some of the most tankiest enemies in the game. You need weapons with high damage or accurate weapons to defeat them by shooting at their weak spots. As we will be starting with an Assault Rifle and then switching to an SMG for the early-level build, you will be able to eliminate the small bots in a couple of hits and even the bigger ones in a few hits. The stratagems like Eagle Airstrike and Orbital Precision Airstrike will allow you to take down Hulk and Tank enemies in a single hit if placed correctly. Moreover, you can use the Mortar Sentry to take out hordes of small bots from a distance, giving you more room to work on the objectives.
With the Vitality Enhancement Booster, your character and all of your fellow divers in the group will become more resistant to damage and injury. You and your group will take less damage and injuries requiring you not to use the Stims often. It is the best Booster for beginners, especially against the Automaton enemies as they have lethal weapons that do high damage.
However, as some of these equipment items unlock on Pages 4 and 5 of Warbond, you will have to level up around 8-10 to get the best options for the build. Until then you can use the alternative items that we will mention in this build.

Best Weapons for Beginner Automaton Build
The best weapon for beginner Automaton build or even the best Automaton build is the SMG-37 Defender or SG-225 Breaker. However, you will need to unlock Pages 3 and 4 of Warbond to unlock these weapons with Medals, which will take you to about 7-8 levels. So, for the early levels, it is best that you stick with the AR-23 Liberator Assault Rifle or the R-63 Diligence Marksman Rifle and take out the bots from close to medium range with decent accuracy and fire rate. Once you have leveled up enough and unlocked Page 3 of Warbond, get the SMG-37 Defender or the SG-225 Breaker from Page 4, respectively.
The SMG-37 Defender is one of the best weapons for high DPS due to its high fire rate. It does not have that much accuracy but it can help you take out Troopers, Commissar, and even Berserker by shooting at its head or at the joint between the torso and the legs.
The SG-225 Breaker will two-shot all troopers and the Commissar. Moreover, the bigger bots will only require a few shots at the weakpoint. You can easily run around the bigger bots to get behind them and shoot a couple of shots on their weak spot to kill them.
For your secondary weapon, choose the P-19 Redeemer Pistol. It is a fully automatic pistol with a 31-round capacity and a higher fire rate. You can easily clear scavengers with this weapon to clear out some space for yourself. The P-19 Redeemer fits perfectly with the High DPS equipment. However, if you want something accurate, then stick with the starting pistol, but due to the low fire rate, troopers can catch up to you.
Best Grenade Choice
The final essential piece of equipment is the G-16 Impact grenade. It is a special grenade that explodes upon initial contact with the enemy. As you will be facing countless hordes of bots advancing at you, throwing it at them can destroy multiple of them instantly. Moreover, you can throw it at any bot that is chasing you to most probably destroy it or deal decent damage to it.
Moreover, here are some of the alternatives that you can use in Beginner Automaton Build.
- SG-8 Punisher
- P-2 Peacemaker
- G-12 High Explosive
Below are the recommended weapons for Beginner Automaton build:
- Primary Weapon: SMG-37 Defender or SG-225 Breaker
- Secondary Weapon: P-19 Redeemer
- Grenade: G-16 Impact
What Are The Best Stratagems For a Beginner Automaton Build?
The best Stratagems for Beginner Automaton build are Orbital Precision Strike, Eagle Airstrike, Mortar Sentry, and Recoilless Rifle. Orbital Precision Strike is the very first stratagem that you will get and it is one of the best ones to use during early levels. A well-placed precision strike will eliminate Hulk and Tank bots instantly. Eagle Airstrike is another efficient early-game stratagem that you can use to unleash a bombardment in a straight line. Again, a well-called airstrike can eliminate bigger-size bots. The Mortar Sentry is something that you will unlock at Level 8 but it is highly effective in taking out dozens of units from a great range. It has unlimited uses with a 180-second cooldown time. Lastly, the Recoilless Rifle will be our Support Weapon Stratagem, which you can call in. It is highly effective in taking out strong units like Berserker and Hulk. Moreover, a well-placed shot at the engine of the Dropship will destroy the ship along with all units on it.
However, if you are playing Solo then I will recommend using the EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank as it does more damage and can take down Berserker in two hits on the face. The rest of the stratagems can work greatly while playing a Solo mission.
Below are the recommended Stratagems for Beginner Automaton build:
- Orbital Precision Strike: A precise shot from the Destroyer’s “ATLAS” Cannon.
- Eagle Airstrike: Unleash a bombardment in a straight line.
- A/M-12 Mortar Sentry: Fire powerful shells at long range.
- GR-8 Recoilless Rifle: Fires a single anti-tank shell that deals high damage on contact.
Armor Choice
Now, the Armor choice for the beginner Automaton build mainly depends on whether you are playing Solo or in a group. If you are playing in a group then we recommend FS-05 Marksman Armor. It is a Heavy Armor Set that comes with the Fortified Passive Ability. The Fortified passive ability further reduces recoil when crouching or prone by 30% and provides 50% resistance to explosive damage. So, with this Armor, you will be able to shoot more precisely and gain 50% explosive resistance which is highly effective in Automaton missions. There are numerous units with explosive weapons that can easily one-shot you. With the advantage of resistance, it will increase the chances of your survival.
If you are playing Solo then we recommend CM-09 Bonesnapper Armor. It is a Medium Armor Set that comes with the Med-Kit Passive Ability. The Med-Kit passive ability increases the initial inventory and holding capacity of stims by +2 and increases stim effect duration by 2.0s. Completing an Automaton mission Solo will require a higher survivability rate and this Armor can help you achieve it. With more Stims and effect duration, you will be able to keep your character alive for longer. Moreover, with the help of Vitality Enhancement Booster, you will take less damage and injuries which overall increases your survivability.
Below is the recommended Armory loadout for the Beginner Automaton build:
- CM-09 Bonesnapper (Solo), FS-05 Marksman (Group)
- You can use any Helmet.
- You can use any Cape.
