Twitch CEO Daniel Clancy responded to the allegations of favoritism amidst FaZe Lacy’s recent ban controversy.

Streamer and Today Off Stream blogger Zach Bussey accused Twitch CEO Daniel Clancy of favoritism towards big streamers. Zach shared a clip on X that showed streamer Jason “Jastontheween” talking about how he talked to the Twitch CEO and got Lacy unbanned.
Bussey questioned the Twitch appeals system and asked:
“Why bother with the appeals system when you can just call the Head of Trust and Safety, Dan Clancy?”
The streamer claimed that Twitch has been accused of applying rules unevenly, and now the platform’s favoritism is “just overt and public.” Bussey covers social media and streaming news on his X account for over 53,700 followers. He also started his Twitch channel, which has over 9,000 followers.
Someone hacked Lacy’s Twitch account and started streaming p*rn and racist content on January 4, 2025. Jason said he reached out to Dan Clancy, and Twitch restored the banned account within minutes. On January 6, 2025, Clancy responded to allegations of playing favoritism. He denied the allegations and said that he did not help restore Lacy’s account because of Jason’s phone call.
Why Internet Users Accused Dan Clancy of “Favoritism”
On January 4, 2025, hackers compromised Lacy’s Twitch account. The streamer posted on X:
“I am hacked, I have no access to my account and can’t end my stream. Working on it now sorry for anyone who is seeing this disgusting stuff.”

Shortly after Lacy got his account back, FaZe member Alexander “Adapt” Hamilton Prynkiewicz appeared on Jason’s stream. He said:
“You got a direct line to the CEO? Oh, wait. That is crazy! So, he’ll be free? You put in a word with the boss (Dan Clancy). Wow!”

People circulated the clip online and said that Dan Clancy was playing favorites for FaZe Clan members. Clancy responded to the allegations and said:
“For clarity, I did not do anything. Jason told me Lacy’s account had been hacked. I told him to get Lacy to contact his SPM which Lacy was already doing. (Lacy was talking to them while Jason was talking to me.)”

Twitch was already working bring the stream down and the. Re-enable…
Clancy added that Twitch was already working on restoring the account and had “zero” contribution in it.
Other Accusations Against the Twitch CEO
Dan Clancy had multiple accusations of favoritism in 2024. Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt called out Twitch in November 2024 and said:
“One person can do something and nothing happens. Somebody else says something, and they are permanently banned. I think also the moderation is extremely biased. It is biased. And this will become more evident over time.”
Asmongold plans to do a stream exposing Twitch and its biased moderation team and says that if he gets banned for the expose, he’ll move to Rumble or Kick 👀 pic.twitter.com/glMsSghAzk

The streamer said that Twitch has inconsistent policies for content moderation. Asmongold said he will move to Rumble or Kick if he gets censored for his statements.

In October 2024, Steven “Destiny” Bonnell accused Twitch of banning Israeli accounts. H3 Podcast’s Ethan Klein also called out the platform and accused Clancy of anti-Semitism. After multiple content creators raised complaints, Twitch issued an apology and re-enabled the platform for new Israeli accounts.
