Explore the thrilling conclusion of Solo Leveling, with an in-depth analysis of its final moments, fates of the main characters, and more.
Ever since the manhwa series started serialization in 2016, Chugong’s Solo Leveling has cemented itself as the face of the modern manhwa industry. Its popularity further skyrocketed due to the ongoing anime adaptation by Studio A-1 Pictures, who are doing an unbelievable job of bringing Chugong’s masterpiece to life. The anime is currently airing its second season, which will consist of 13 episodes in all.
However, as the days go by, there is one question that has been burning in the minds of anime-only fans: Is the Solo Leveling manhwa over? To answer the question in brief – yes, the main story of Solo Leveling reached its conclusion on December 29, 2021, with the release of its second season’s final chapter. That being said, the main continuity of the Solo Leveling universe is still ongoing in its sequel, the Ragnarök series. With that in mind, let us explore the Solo Leveling ending in detail.
How Does the Solo Leveling Manhwa End?
To make things clear for anime-only fans, the main story of Solo Leveling has two endings – the first one being chapter 179, which marked the official conclusion to the Solo Leveling manhwa’s second season. However, there’s another ending to Solo Leveling’s main story, which takes place in chapter 200 of the manhwa adaptation.
For context, 21 chapters of side stories were released following the conclusion of the manhwa’s second season, which completely wrapped up the main story and set the stage for Sung Suho, the son of Sung Jin-Woo and the protagonist of Solo Leveling: Ragnarök.
In the final arc of Solo Leveling season 2, Sung Jin-Woo faced his toughest battle yet against Antares, the Monarch of Destruction, and the Dragon King. After a monumental showdown, Jin-Woo managed to defeat Antares with the help of the Rulers.
However, after the battle was over, Jin-Woo requested the Rulers to let him use the Cup of Reincarnation to turn back time. He argued that he had lost way too many people in the war against the Monarchs and would like an opportunity to minimize the casualties by fighting them all alone.
As a result, a new timeline came into fruition. This was a world where Hunters and Dungeons did not exist yet. In order to make good on his promise to the Rulers, Jin-Woo sealed himself inside a Dimensional Rift and fought the Monarchs all by himself.
After nearly 27 years, he emerged victorious in his long battle. Following that, Jin-Woo returned to his world. There, he continued his newfound life and eventually reconnected with his friends and allies from the previous timeline. This marked the end of the Solo Leveling manhwa’s season 2.
As for the side stories, they provided further closure to fans of Solo Leveling. These side stories showcased Jin-Woo’s life after his long battle against the Monarchs. With the world now free from the threat of Dungeons and monsters, Jin-Woo decided to pursue the career of a detective, using his powers as the Shadow Monarch to serve proper justice to criminals. Later on, Jin-Woo married his love interest from the previous timeline, Cha Hae-In. He also had a son with her, named Sung Suho.
Fates of the Main Characters As of the Solo Leveling Ending
In the ending of the Solo Leveling side stories, Sung Jin-Woo married his longtime love interest, Cha Hae-in. They had a son together, who became the protagonist of the Solo Leveling: Ragnarök series. However, in the final chapter of the side stories, Jin-Woo was seen facing the threat of the Itarim (a race of Outer Gods) all by himself.
In the Solo Leveling ending, other prominent characters like Baek Yoon-Ho lived a normal life. He moved on from the life of a Hunter and now works as a firefighter in the new timeline. Yoo Jin-Ho lived a normal life as well, and ended up marrying Jin-Woo’s younger sister, Sung Jinah. As for Go Gun-Hee, he ended up passing away after a long illness. Lastly, the former A-Rank Hunter Woo Jin-Chul became a detective in the new timeline, working in the Violent Crimes Division.
Does Solo Leveling Have a Sequel?
Yes, Solo Leveling does have a sequel, named Solo Leveling: Ragnarök. It features Sung Jin-Woo’s son, Sung Suho, as the protagonist. The events of this series take place approximately five years after the original series. At the very beginning, it was stated that both Sung Jin-Woo and Cha Hae-In had vanished from Earth shortly after the ending of the side stories.
Later on in the series, we learned that Jin-Woo was fending off the Itarim’s invasion all by himself. On the other hand, Cha Hae-In was trapped inside a Dimensional Rift alongside Jin-Woo’s shadow soldier, Kaisel. Hae-In eventually made her way back to Earth in the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok web novel. However, Jin-Woo is yet to make an actual appearance.
Conclusion
The Solo Leveling anime has miles to go before it catches up with the manhwa or the web novel. That said, fans are undeniably excited and hyped up to witness their most anticipated battles from the manhwa in the ongoing Solo Leveling season 2. Studio A-1 Pictures has certainly done an outstanding job of bringing Chugong’s masterpiece to life. We hope that they do justice to the popular manhwa in the future as well.
