Who is Invisible Girl in My Hero Academia? Explore the story of Toru Hagakure, her powers and abilities, her role in the story, and more.
In the colorful world of My Hero Academia, every character, no matter how major or minor their role, is an irreplaceable part of the narrative. Although some characters do often get overshadowed due to the vast size of My Hero Academia‘s roster, there are some who have a lasting impact on the narrative as well as the fans despite their limited appearance.
One such character is Toru Hagakure, better known as the Invisible Girl of My Hero Academia. Although she may not always be in the spotlight, her extraordinary Quirk, uplifting personality, and unique connection to Yuga Aoyama make her one of the most memorable characters of the series. With that in mind, let us further explore Invisible Girl’s character, her powers and abilities, and her fate after the time skip in My Hero Academia.
Who Is Invisible Girl in My Hero Academia?
Toru Hagakure was a student of Class 1-A at U.A. High School and is also known as the Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl. Throughout the series, she displayed an extroverted, upbeat, and easygoing personality. She enjoyed socializing with her classmates and brought a sense of lightheartedness to the often intense atmosphere of U.A. High. She is also incredibly reliable and is always willing to help out her classmates in times of need.
Although her character was mostly seen as a comic relief, her role in the Final War arc of My Hero Academia cemented her as one of the series’ most unforgettable characters. From her very first appearance, Toru stood out from the rest – albeit ironically, by not standing out at all. This is due to her Invisibility Quirk, which makes her body completely invisible. As such, she is a character whose appearance remained a mystery for a major part of the series.
Invisible Girl’s Role in My Hero Academia
Toru Hagakure is certainly not one of My Hero Academia‘s primary characters, having a rather supporting role in the overarching narrative. In fact, she mostly gets overshadowed by other prominent characters, like Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and even Yuga Aoyama. Despite that, she played her part as a loyal and supportive member of Class 1-A.
While she doesn’t exactly have a particular backstory, she played a major role in My Hero Academia‘s U.A. Traitor arc, where she discovered Yuga Aoyama to be All For One’s informant. Her prominence to the narrative was also tied to Aoyama and his redemption arc.
That being said, her overall role in My Hero Academia includes being a morale booster for her friends. Her upbeat attitude and friendly personality contributed to the familial bond shared by the students of Class 1-A.
Upon discovering Aoyama to be a traitor to U.A. High and his friends, Toru was devastated. However, she managed to forgive him in the end, and even motivated him to make amends by helping them defeat All For One in the Final War arc.
Invisible Girl’s Powers and Abilities
Toru Hagakure’s only power is her Invisibility Quirk, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – it makes her body entirely invisible to the naked eye. As such, she excels in stealth and espionage, making her ideal for spy missions and ambushes. She can easily bypass visual detection and can also refract light that passes through her. This allows her to intensify the light and blind her opponents momentarily.
While she doesn’t possess raw power like Midoriya, Bakugo, or Todoroki, Toru is fairly well-trained in hand-to-hand combat, making her a formidable opponent in close quarters. Her combat abilities, alongside her invisibility, allow her to disorient and incapacitate her enemies with precise and unpredictable strikes.
After her Hero-Work Studies, Toru further refined the light refraction application of her Quirk. As a result, she gained the ability to manipulate and redirect light-based attacks, like Yuga Aoyama’s Navel Laser.
However, as advantageous as her Quirk sounds, it comes with its equal and obvious share of drawbacks. The benefits of her Invisibility Quirk would only work if Toru completely lacks clothing and equipment, which led to some awkward situations at times.
Invisible Girl’s Fate After Time Skip in My Hero Academia
Following the conclusion of the Final War arc in My Hero Academia, there was a time skip of 8 years. This was covered mostly in the Epilogue arc of the series, which showcased the daily lives of Heroes and how the Hero society managed to pull through after the mass destruction caused by All For One and Tomura Shigaraki.
In the time skip, every single student of Class 1-A had graduated from U.A. High and became great Pro Heroes, with the only exception being Izuku Midoriya, who became a teacher at U.A. High. As for Toru Hagakure, she is the current No. 39 Hero.
As one would expect, the My Hero Academia epilogue did not provide adequate spotlight to Toru. However, we can assume that she lives a fairly comfortable life and fights crime alongside her friends.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Toru Hagakure, aka the Invisible Girl of My Hero Academia, is more than another cheerful character with a unique Quirk. She represents the unsung and underutilized characters, who contribute to the narrative in ways that may not always be “visible” to many. Nonetheless, she remains as one of the series’ most popular and beloved characters, whose character arc fans continue to revisit even after the series’ conclusion.
