Dream is one of the biggest Minecraft YouTubers with a massive fanbase. However, he has been embroiled in controversies a number of times.
Clay, popularly known as Dream, is a YouTuber who has become extremely popular in recent years. He went from being a well-known figure in the Minecraft community on the platform to becoming a viral sensation on the internet after revealing his face. However, he has also garnered attention as a result of the numerous controversies in which he is involved.
Even though he gained massive attention in 2024, he has become embroiled in drama as well. Let’s dive into the major scandals in which Dream has been involved.
1) Charity Stream
In June 2021, Dream was criticized for saying that all earnings from his streams in June would be donated to charity, despite the fact that he did not stream for more than a single day that month. Throughout June, Dream broadcasted on several platforms, including at least four Discord streams where he encouraged people to subscribe and donate to his Twitch channel.
Later, Dream stated on June 30, 2021, that he had donated US$ 140,000 to The Trevor Project, an LGBT youth charity. Moreover, in response to fellow YouTuber Technoblade’s cancer diagnosis, Dream donated $21,409 to cancer research in late August 2021.
2) Dream Cheating On Speedrun
Dream was one of the streamers who were caught cheating in Minecraft. Several well-known speedrunning YouTubers, most notably Karl Jobst, exposed him for using Minecraft cheats to give him advantageous drop rates. However, Dream refused these allegations for months.
In order to demonstrate that he wasn’t cheating and that he merely got lucky throughout his runs, Dream even hired a Harvard professor to conduct the math for him in a huge Google Doc. All of this was exposed, and Dream finally gave in and acknowledged that he had cheated on his Minecraft speedruns.
3) Feud With TommyInnit
Recently, a feud between popular Minecraft content makers Dream and Thomas “TommyInnit” has sparked controversy in the live-streaming community. The drama began on January 11, 2025, when Clay published a series of now-deleted tweets replying to TommyInnit’s recent remarks regarding Felix “xQc.” This comes after TommyInnit slammed xQc’s viral interaction with Donald Trump during Adin Ross’ stream.
xQc responded by accusing Tommy of obtaining popularity by working with Dream. Clay quickly joined the discourse, posting a meme that many found offensive. The meme depicted a DreamSMP fan torn between “growing up” and becoming a “ret**ted TommyInnit fan.”
This provoked controversy, with some accusing Dream of ableism and “alt-right” views. Furthermore, the Minecraft star justified himself, citing autism and the community’s double standards. He claimed that others had used similar terms without consequence, and he was offended by the hypocrisy.
Clay acknowledged the outrage created by his actions but said that the criticism was often dishonest. Moreover, he also uploaded a video on YouTube titled “I’m Sorry (but not to TomyInnit) where he talked about the whole situation.
4) Dream And Ludwig Feud
Ludwig Ahgren discussed his previous experience with Dream on a broadcast on January 13, 2025. Ludwig responded to Dream’s previous stream, in which he claimed that the YouTuber accused him of calling one of his friends a “wh*re.” He posted a lengthy video explaining why he did not speak about it publicly.
He also stated that he does not like it when others ask him to make videos about people. Furthermore, Ludwig also shared why he thought now was the right time to disclose this information. He said that he brought it up because Dream brought it up.
After Ludwig shared his thoughts on the incident, Dream reacted on Reddit, claiming that the former “misremembered” their conversation. He also stated that Ahgren did not convey the entire situation in a “fair way.” Dream also said that Ludwig made it seem “worse than what actually happened.”
Dream described the entire conversation in detail, stating that he had proposed to Ludwig to create a video. In response, Ahgren “jokingly” accused Dream of calling one of his buddies a “w**e.” He further revealed that Ahgren went on to explain why he did not want to resurface the information. Moreover, Dream stated that he had no clue about the scenario.
5) Dream Winning The Streamy Awards
The Streamy Awards are an annual event that celebrates outstanding creators and excellence in online video, including directing, acting, producing, and writing. For the 2023 event, five people were nominated for the title and prize of “Gamer of the Year.”
The nominees comprised Jessica “Aphmau,” Caylus, Clay “Dream,” Mark “Markiplier,” and finally, Thomas “TommyInnit.” Much to his astonishment, Clay claimed after receiving the prize that he “genuinely did not think” he would win it.
Netizens went wild, with many expecting other creators, such as Markiplier, to win the award, citing a lack of activity on Dream’s channel as the reason. Others discussed how Markiplier was “robbed.”
