Elon Musk, a billionaire entrepreneur known for his antics on social media and gaming, is being accused by the Path of Exile community of being a fraud. The controversy started when he flexed his level 95 character in a livestream. However, during the stream, fans noticed how awkward he played, having difficulty executing basic mechanics and making rookie mistakes despite his high-level character and powerful gear.

Many viewers found it suspicious that someone who had supposedly invested the time required to reach such progress in the game would still struggle so visibly with the fundamentals of gameplay. This has led to speculations with some Path of Exile content creators alleging that the gamer billionaire is paying other players to boost his account.

This practice is heavily frowned upon within the Path of Exile community. This is because many believe that grinding and personal progression are core pillars of the experience, especially in a game where complex mechanics and deep customization options.

Elon Musk Path of Exile 2 Boosting Allegations Explained

The allegations about Elon Musk paying someone to boost his Path of Exile account started during a livestream on the X platform on 7th January 2025. The billionaire played the game to showcase his gameplay in the game’s Hardcore League. For context, it works similarly to the Difficulty game mode in other games.

This league is notorious for being unforgiving with more aggressive enemies, fewer defensive options, and a permanent death for your character. Once you die in the game, your character will be sent to the Stardard difficulty mode. Elon Musk played with a high-level character. However, fans were quick to notice how his skill did not reflect his character’s level of progress in the game.

It also did not help that his account, Perry_Verence, was among the top-performing accounts in the Path of Exile Hardcore League leaderboard. With such a high-ranking account, viewers expected him to be good at the game. At the time of writing, the character has a “Dead” tag, and its ranking is #23.

Following this, Path of Exile 2 content creators shared their opinions about the billionaire’s gameplay. Quin69TV made a reaction video about the livestream saying, “He’s never played this game before, has he?” The streamer also made an analysis of Elon Musk’s gameplay and pointed out several misplays.

Quin69TV also noticed several anomalies in the livestream footage. One example was a map labeled “Elon’s Map.” Despite having this item, Elon Musk did not use it to his advantage. Additionally, he is only picking up highlighted items and ignore the rare and valuable ones like the Chaos Orb that are not highlighted by the game. This further fuels speculation among players that he is not investing enough time to play the game and master it. Instead, many believe he may be paying other players to boost his account.

Is Elon Musk Faking His Video Game Skills

There is no concrete evidence confirming whether Elon Musk is outsourcing his gaming activities. However, based on his Path of Exile livestream, many fans believe he needs to take mastering the game more seriously if he wishes to maintain his top player status. Players notice a lot of inconsistencies in his gameplay that it definitely raised some eyebrows.

According to MoistCr1TiKaL in his recent reaction video about the controversy, “If you’re really good at Diablo 4, you should at least be pretty good at Path of Exile, and he’s just not.” Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed to be a top Diablo 4 player, but whenever he plays games on livestreams, his skills fail to reflect those claims, raising further doubt about his actual gaming proficiency.

A Reddit thread even documents Elon Musk’s claims, alongside a list of publicly available information highlighting some suspicious gaming activities from the billionaire. The thread also includes unconfirmed rumors, adding further intrigue to the situation. Whether Elon Musk is truly an elite gamer or not, this controversy has certainly raised questions about his authenticity as a skilled gamer.
