Make an informed decision before choosing a faction in Dynasty Warriors Origins to help shape the story your way.
Your faction of choice will ultimately set a path for you to finish your story in Dynasty Warriors Origins. So, you don’t want to overlook the importance of picking a faction that resonates with you. We are not using the word “right faction” because there is no ‘correct’ path to a hero’s story.
However, the story is shaped in a way that your choices and the faction you choose will greatly impact the game’s ending from the protagonist’s POV. We will walk you through each faction without spoiling the story. For starters, there are three factions in the game that you can choose to be loyal to. These are: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Jian.
You don’t pledge your allegiance to either of these until Chapter 3 has begun. When this chapter begins, the players will see the names of the three faction leaders on the top-left corner of the screen along with the diamonds representing contributions. Cao Cao requires 1, Liu Bei requires 2, and Sun Jian requires 3 contributions to join.
If you don’t join a faction before the time expires, you will be permanently locked out of pledging your allegiance to them.
What Changes Do These Factions Bring in Dynasty Warriors Origins?
Cao Cao
- Power and strategy are the key motivators of this campaign, and it majorly takes place in the Central Plains.
- The primary conflicting forces during the story will be against Liu Bei, Yuan Shao, and Lu Bu.
Liu Bei
- Brotherhood is the central theme in this campaign.
- The story will offer an underdog narrative
Sun Jian
- Conquering the Southlands and naval battles is the main focus in this campaign.
- This story will take you away from the central plain rivalries of Liu Bei and Cao Cao. Meaning your story won’t be intertwined with theirs.

Key Moments That Affect Factions in Dynasty Warriors Origins
For the first time, you will face a critical choice in Chapter 3 when the Battle of Xu Province is going on. You might not have pledged your loyalty to a faction yet. So, this choice becomes even more crucial. The battle takes place between Cao Cao and Liu Bei. You can side with either of these factions.
The faction that you side with will remain an option for permanent alignment later and does not lock your choice right away. However, the faction that you DO NOT choose will become unavailable for the rest of the game.
When the second “time is passing” prompt appears later in the third chapter, you must have the following contributions for the following factions to pledge your loyalty:
- Cao Cao (5 battles)
- Liu Bei (4 battles)
- Sun Jian (5 battles)
So, to sum it up, your decision in the Battle of Xu Province and the number of contributions will ultimately affect your story. This is because these will determine what factions to choose.
