Mario Kart 9 might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2; the handheld’s trailer also showcased gameplay that has fans speculating.
In a shocking turn of events, Nintendo has silently dropped a trailer for their Switch 2 without any prior notice. After years of speculation and rumors, the official teaser has finally confirmed its existence. While details are scarce right now, the trailer has promised more information during the Nintendo Direct, which will take place on April 2, 2025.
Amid the excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2, the company might also have sneakily dropped a hint for Mario Kart 9. It is an incredibly popular franchise and this is huge news for fans of the game. Intentionally or otherwise, the Switch 2 trailer may have just teased Mario Kart 9. Either way, the gaming community is running amok, and some experts have deduced a ton of information simply from this teaser. Here is what we could see about the Mario Kart 9 gameplay from the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer:
- Mario Kart 9 may support 24 players, based on the number of positions at the starting line.
- The race track is named “Mario Bros. Circuit”, and it features a desert-like area with a Yoshi Burger Diner at the backdrop.
- Both karts and bikes may be playable in the same race in Mario Kart 9.
Mario Kart 9 was the last thing any fan expected, and this double teaser has left everyone spellbound and excited. Apart from the gameplay features in the list above, some fans have pointed out some other elements that adhere to the goofy and cartoony nature of the game.

In another post on X, user hayden fryus could not contain their excitement about this game, with a sequel after 11 years. The user said:
“We waited 11 years for a moment like this. It’s enough to bring a grown man to tears.”
Other users also shared similar sentiments regarding this game. For many, Mario Kart 8, released in 2014, was a game that defined their childhoods. As such, the nostalgia factor is also high for this one. The Mario Kart 9 news is as big as the Switch 2 teaser itself, and the fan reactions stand as proof of that.

In yet another hilarious angle, a user has compared the backdrop of the Mario Kart 9 track with that from the Disney movie Cars. In all fairness, the backdrop does seem similar to the canyon from Route 66 where Lightning McQueen was stranded, and where he also met the Fabulous Hudson Hornet.
Mario Kart 9 May Be a Day 0 Release for the Nintendo Switch 2
Currently, no official information is available about Mario Kart 9. It is not officially known when this game is coming to the Switch 2, or if it is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 at all. However, based on the short cameo teaser from the Switch 2 teaser, we can deduce that Mario Kart 9 is indeed coming to the Switch 2, possibly as a day 0 release.
More details about the Switch 2 will become available during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. Official information about Mario Kart 9 might also be available in the same program.
