Doom The Dark Ages, the highly anticipated new mainline entry in the iconic first-person shooter series, finally has a confirmed release date. Xbox Game Studios and id Software (Bethesda Softworks) recently announced the release date for the game during the Xbox Developer Direct 2025. Surprisingly enough, the upcoming Doom game is coming much sooner than most fans would’ve anticipated.

Doom The Dark Ages is essentially a prequel to both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, with a story that delves deeper into the Doom Slayer’s past. However, it features elements from both those titles to deliver the most grounded and visceral “Doom experience,” while also staying true to its “arcade-like” roots.

For Doom The Dark Ages, developer id Software went back to a more grounded and gritty tone akin to Doom 3 and Doom (2016). However, the grounded tone is juxtaposed against the same arcade-like gameplay of Doom Eternal. Doom The Dark Ages is essentially a mix of both Doom (2016) and its sequel.

With the release date announcement, Xbox also revealed a ton of additional information regarding the game’s pre-orders. Here’s everything you need to know about Doom The Dark Ages’ pre-orders, platforms, prices, and more.

Doom The Dark Ages Release Date and Platforms

Doom The Dark Ages is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2025. The latest Doom title is also the very first game to be released exclusively for the current-gen systems. Doom The Dark Ages is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and, surprisingly enough, also on PlayStation 5. Furthermore, unlike other Xbox Game Studios published titles, a la Indian Jones and the Great Circle, or Starfield, the new Doom game is coming to PS5 on the same date as other platforms.

In fact, the game is even available to pre-order on PS5, alongside the myriad of pre-order bonuses. It should be noted that unlike the past two Doom titles, Doom The Dark Ages isn’t coming to the Nintendo Switch.

It is very much possible that id Software (and Bethesda Softworks) is gearing the game for a Nintendo Switch 2 release. However, the studio has not revealed any official details regarding a Nintendo-specific version yet.

Similar to Doom Eternal, Doom The Dark Ages is offered in two different editions – Standard and Premium. The Standard Edition, as the name suggests, comes with just the base game. Furthermore, being a current-gen title, Doom The Dark Ages’ Standard Edition is priced at $70. On the other hand, the Premium Edition is priced at $100.

However, for the additional $30, the Premium Edition comes bundled with a host of additional goodies. The Premium Edition comes with the Divinity skin pack, official artbook and soundtrack, and also, early access to post-launch Campaign DLCs. Additionally, the Premium Edition also grants 2 days early access to the base game.

That said, here’s a breakdown of the different editions of Doom The Dark Ages:

Standard Edition ($69.99)

  • Pre-order bonus skin pack

Premium Edition ($99.99)

  • Base game
  • Pre-order bonus skin pack
