Twitch streamers xQc and Plaqueboymax have differing opinions on which streamer helped livestreaming reach mainstream status.
FaZe Clan member and Twitch streamer Maxwell “Plaqueboymax” Elliot Dent shared his thoughts on the livestreaming meta and its mainstream appeal. The streamer said Adin Ross paved the way for Kai Cenat and Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr., who are two of the biggest mainstream content creators in the world.
Twitch and Kick streamer Felix “xQc” Lengyel accused Max of “rewriting” livestreaming history. According to xQc, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins was the first streamer to go mainstream, and no one “even comes close.”
xQc’s comments started an online debate with many internet users agreeing with him. His audience pointed out that Ninja collaborated with artists like Travis Scott and Aubrey “Drake” Graham long before anyone else in the industry.
Plaqueboymax Shouts Out Adin Ross’ Influence on Livestreaming
During a livestream on January 31, 2025, Plaqueboymax was talking about Adin Ross. He said:
“The first n*gga with his foot in the door, like really making it mainstream. Adin was the first n*gga really doin’ it with a 100% bro. Adin was before Kai and Speed. I mean Speed was really blowing up that same year, but not like Adin was yet.”
Adin Ross was a gaming content creator whose Twitch channel blew up in 2021. He hosted a collab stream with Bronny James, son of basketballer LeBron James, that went viral. Ross started collaborating with artists like Drake and Tory Lanez, which bridged the worlds of livestreaming and mainstream culture.
In 2024, he met Donald Trump before the United States President’s election win. The streamer also attended Trump’s inauguration party in January 2025. Despite Ross’ contributions, xQc feels that Ninja deserves more credit for popularizing streaming in modern culture.
xQc Calls Out Max for “Rewriting” Livestreaming History
After Max’s comments about Ross went viral, xQc responded by saying:
“The rewriting of live streaming history has to stop. Ninja was the first AND the only one to go mainstream and nothing even comes close. It took YEARS before getting anywhere where ninja was at.”
Ninja went mainstream during 2017 and 2018 thanks to his Fortnite livestreams. His biggest collab livestream with Travis Scott, Drake, and American footballer JuJu Smith-Schuster got over 15 million views in 2018.
Ninja’s merch was so popular that major retailers like Target and Walmart stocked his products. The National Football League (NFL) also collaborated with him in 2019, marking one of the biggest mainstream collaborations in livestreaming history.
xQc’s tweet sparked conversations about the livestreaming industry, and many agreed that both Ross and Ninja had important contributions. However, Max said that Kai and Speed are the only two mainstream content creators ‘right now.’ He feels that Ninja and Ross are not as popular as before.
