In this guide, we shall go over the best tips and tricks for beginners just starting out with Civilization 7.

The Civilization series is one of the greatest series of all time and has earned its flowers over the decades. Still, despite the critical acclaim, the series has been notorious for being difficult to get into. Hundreds of mechanics, NPCs, and interactions all weave together in intricate ways to create one of the most complex game franchises ever.
While the series has always taken pride in its complexity, Civilization 7 looks to make its complexity more accessible to newer players. The game aims to achieve this through extensive tutorials and simplified UI, but it is an uphill battle. Despite simplifying and explaining the mechanics, the game does not tell you how to make the most optimal use of them. If you’re a new player starting out, you need all the help you can get, and we’re here for just that. In this guide, we shall go over the best tips and tricks for beginners just starting out with Civilization 7.
Best Civilization 7 Tips and Tricks for Beginners
1) Scout Abilities Are Key

When you start out the game, you have the option to use the Scouts or the Warriors as you look to expand. Both of these NPCs share mostly the same stats, with the Warriors coming in with an additional 20 melee damage. The scouts, however, come in with two valuable abilities. The first is the Lookout ability, which sets up a tower that increases the Sight Range by +1. This ability is crucial for keeping an eye on enemy movement, ensuring you’re never caught off guard. The second ability, Search, is useful for clearing terrain and finding Discoveries, especially in the early game.
2) Army Commanders Can Make All the Difference

Army Commanders are a new NPC that can take charge of the Army Units. These NPCs can absorb up to 6 Army Units at once and can then run around the map freely. At the press of a button, they can then deploy the absorbed Units back onto the ground.
These new NPCs are perfect for transporting multiple units across the battlefield at once instead of moving each Unit individually. The Commanders shine best in combat, where their Focus Fire and Coordinated Attack abilities allow you to hone in on a single target and attack all at once.
3) Exert Your Influence

Influence is a brand new currency making its way to Civilization 7 and is your main way of building ties with Independent Powers near you. This is especially important if you wish to forge alliances and improve your economy through trade.
You can spend Influence to befriend states, as well as launch endeavors that will strengthen your ties. It is important to be friendly in the early game as you’re just starting out. Hostility may not be your best bet in the early game.
4) If Confused, Use the Civilopedia

Civilization 7 throws a bunch of information at you, and information overload is a real issue in the game. Thankfully, you can consume the information at your own pace using the Civilopedia. This is not an external encyclopedia but an in-game wiki right at your fingertips. This tool gives you detailed descriptions of all the aspects of the game and has a built-in search function to help with the task. The Civilopedia is easy to navigate and is one of the best tools in the game for someone just starting out.
