Congalala in Monster Hunter stands out as a fanged beast with a huge appetite. Players often refer to it as the “big farting ape” due to its rather unpleasant offensive attacks. However, don’t let it fool you. This monster can put up a good fight, especially if it starts munching down on food.
The Congalala was first introduced back in Monster Hunter 2. Similar to other monsters, the big farting ape has a few unique attacks that can be disgusting but dangerous if you get caught off guard. Here is everything you need to know about the Congalala in Monster Hunter as well as its origins, abilities, and more.

The Congalala made its debut in Monster Hunter 2, released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. As part of the Fanged Beast (or “Ape” in older classifications) family, this pink, gas-belching primate quickly became a fan favorite due to its bizarre behavior yet deceptively dangerous attacks. It shares similarities with its smaller counterpart, the Bullfango-like Blangonga, but while the latter exudes raw aggression, a Congalala can be quite unpredictable.
After its introduction, Congalala became a staple in several Monster Hunter titles, including Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Despite being absent from Monster Hunter World, it’s making a grand return in Monster Hunter Wilds, including its open beta 2, marking its first appearance in the current generation of Monster Hunter games.

Congalalas enjoy the company of each other and are often found in herds. This makes them very annoying, as you will be facing the entire herd if you provoke one of them.
Additionally, some of Congalala’s breath and fart attacks will have varying effects based on their diet. You can see what they are about to consume by looking at what food they are holding using their tail. Additionally, if you get hit by one of its fart attacks, you won’t be able to use healing items until you remove the stench using a deodorant.
Furthermore, a Congalala in Monster Hunter is known for its exceptionally durable belly. It is advisable to avoid focusing your attacks on this part of the body. They can even bounce off attacks if they inflate their bellies.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set for a full release on February 28, 2025. However, you won’t have to wait that long. You can experience the game ahead of the launch date through the open beta test phase. The OBT 2 of Monster Hunter Wilds is free to access for all platforms, such as PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
