Gore Magala Origin in Monster Hunter

Introduced in Monster Hunter 4, Gore Magala is one of the most iconic and mysterious monsters in the franchise. This immature Elder Dragon may be blind but boasts heightened senses. On top of that, its most defining trait is the Frenzy Virus. It’s a terrifying affliction spread through its black scales and mist-like spores, making other monsters and even hunters more aggressive and vulnerable.

Its body is covered in dark, armor-like plates, and it possesses six limbs, including clawed wings that are often draped over its body like a tattered cloak. A notable feature is the hidden horns on its head, which only appear when it enters its Frenzy State.

This iconic wyvern will return in Monster Hunter Wilds, as revealed in the recent Into The Iceshard Cliffs trailer.

Gore Magala’s Abilities in Monster Hunter

Gore Magala’s bread-and-butter ability is to inflict Frenzy Virus. Players who receive this debuff cannot regenerate health naturally and will have to rely on healing items. This effect can be removed by attacking constantly. Successfully removing it will grant a bonus affinity boost. It’s a nice payoff that you can use to your advantage.

As Gore Magala continues fighting, it can enter the Frenzy State, where it will start walking on all six and get more aggressive. Its horns will also be exposed, allowing players to deal damage to it.

In Monster Hunter 4, the Gore Magala can molt and transform into its adult version, the Shagaru Magala. This form makes its wings grow wider and brighter. It also gets more aggressive with more dangerous virus breath attacks. Additionally, they no longer need to rely on their scales to sense their environment.

You can encounter Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds, which is set to release on February 28, 2025. A beta testing phase is also ongoing if you wish to play the game in advance. The OBT 2 of Monster Hunter Wilds is free to access for all platforms, such as PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
