The Lunar Awakening Event—What and When Is It?
This event will take place in both the Eternal and Seasonal realms in the game. The event starts from 10:00 am PST, on February 4 to 10:00 am PST, on February 18, 2024. In this limited-time event, you embark on the search for the Lunar Shrines where you get a lot of augmented buffs to earn reputation, experience, and exclusive rewards.
How To Participate in the Event
First, go to the Ked Bardu waypoint in Dry Steppes and find Ying-Yue in the northern part of the Town. Ying-Yue is the hub of this event.
Players can gain Ancestor’s Favor to unlock reward tiers and progress through the event questline by defeating enemies while a Lunar Shrine is active. These shrines are marked on the mini-map with a purple star and take the form of various Lunar Cycle Animals.
Lunar Awakening Shrines generate multiple waves of enemies, allowing you to gain Ancestral Favor reputation with each kill. This method efficiently accumulates reputation points.
Upon reaching Ancestral Favor Tier 7, you receive your third set of Greater Awakened Spoils, which include a minimum of 3 Nightmare Dungeon Sigils featuring the Ancestor’s Favor dungeon affix. To maximize your Ancestral Favor reputation, defeat as many enemies as possible while benefiting from the Artillery Shrine or Conduit Shrine buffs.
In events centered around Lunar Shrines, you have a Mastery objective to focus on. You’ll need to safeguard Lunar Celebrants and purge the shrines of miserly spirits to boost your favors from the ancestors. Achieving the Mastery Objective triggers a 30-second Bonus Frenzy Wave of enemies. These Lunar Shrine Events offer greater Reputation rewards with the Lunar Awakening compared to the regular Lunar Shrines.
The Lunar Shrines
During the Lunar Awakening event, every Shrine in Sanctuary becomes a Lunar Shrine, offering powerful temporary buffs and a 100% XP bonus for two minutes. These shrines keep their original effects but gain unique enhancements, making them even stronger.
Each Lunar Shrine provides significant combat benefits, making their activation essential for the event. Whether you’re farming dungeons, clearing Nightmare content, or exploring the open world, knowing each shrine’s benefits helps maximize efficiency and adapt strategies.
- Artillery Shrine: Attacks can summon a holy bomb, dealing massive AoE damage to nearby enemies.
- Blast Wave Shrine: Explosions trigger additional cluster bombardments, expanding the area of effect and increasing total damage.
- Channeling Shrine: Boosts attack speed and grants a chance to instantly reset ability cooldowns, allowing rapid skill use.
- Conduit Shrine: Releases frequent, powerful lightning strikes, electrocuting enemies with increased intensity.
- Greed Shrine: Activating the shrine can spawn a Treasure Goblin, and enemy kills may summon additional Goblins.
- Lethal Shrine: Striking an enemy may instantly execute them, causing nearby monsters to flee in fear. This works on Elites but not on Bosses or Players.
- Protection Shrine: Grants total damage reflection, sending incoming attacks back at enemies. Reflected damage scales based on your level and difficulty setting.
Since Lunar Shrines are scattered across Sanctuary, prioritize dungeons and high-density enemy areas to maximize XP bonuses and buff effects. By consistently activating shrines, you’ll speed up reputation farming and make combat easier.
