The latest State of Play took place on February 12, 2025, and showcased a number of new IPs. One of the most promising ones is MindsEye, which can best be described as an action game that creates a unique combination between GTA-like openness and the cyberpunk genre. The Developers of MindsEye
If you noticed the stark inspiration that the Grand Theft Auto series has on the game, you’re not alone. And there’s a very simple reason for this connection. Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind this futuristic video game, is the company of longtime game producer Leslie Benzies. His career accolades include working on every GTA title since GTA III. He eventually left Rockstar Games after the release of GTA V and established his own game development company.
Besides Build A Rocket Boy, IO Interactive Partners will publish the game.
MindsEye Story Explained
The game’s protagonist, Jacob Diaz, is an ex-soldier in a futuristic Americana. He has a MindsEye implant in his head from his time in the military, and this implant seems to be giving him visions or flashbacks about a covert mission that he can’t remember. He then sets out to get answers and understand exactly what happened during that mission but comes face-to-face with a mysterious group. They don’t want Jacob to investigate, and this conflict is what leads to the action that the trailer depicts.
The mysterious group also has access to high-grade tech, such as combat robots that pursue Jacob as he drives away in his car. One thing that is abundantly clear is that game director Leslie Benzies is placing a huge emphasis on the game’s narrative. How that story shapes up is something that we’ll have to wait and watch as the game releases.
What Do We Know About the Gameplay?
The gameplay is where you can see the GTA inspiration. The action happens in a third-person perspective, similar to games in the popular Rockstar Games franchise. Besides that, you will be able to drive around what looks like an open city, much like in all GTA games. There is also a cover system, which can make the gunplay aspect of the game much more strategic.
However, with the science fiction element, you might also be able to spot inspiration from other games, such as Watch Dogs. Jacob has a trusty friend in his drone, although it is unclear how you will be able to use this tech. It might be used to scan enemies and mark their positions before Jacob approaches them.
Release Dates and Platforms
The game is set to release sometime in the summer of 2025 on PlayStation 5. A Windows version will also be released at the same time or at some point later since you can wishlist the title on Steam. Check out the gameplay trailer below.
