In Avowed, you are accompanied by four companions throughout your journey. Each of them is very unique, both as characters and in combat. The spells and abilities they use in fights highly determine their usefulness on the battlefield. However, some companions are much better than others when it comes to their usefulness.

You can have two companions in your party at a time. This means you have to make a choice about whom to keep with you. To help you make the decision, this tier list has ranked every companion you unlock in Avowed.

Giatta: She is the best companion in Avowed because of her strong support capabilities. During battles, Giatta can provide various buffs to her team due to being the only companion who is a healer. Her skills, such as “Purification” and “Reconstruction,” provide passive healing to the whole party when in a pinch. This makes her invaluable for nearly any build that you are playing with.

Kai: He is the earliest companion you get near the beginning of Avowed. He serves as an excellent tank who can aggro enemies toward him using the “Leap of Daring” skill. Kai’s passive “Second Wind” allows him to revive himself during battle, which significantly improves the durability of the party. Having Kai and Giatta at the party is highly recommended, as the team becomes nearly undefeatable.

Marius: He is a master of crowd control and utility spells. Marius passively manipulates enemy positioning when in the party. His active skill, “Binding Roots,” immobilizes groups of enemies, creating strategic advantages. His skill “Wounding Shots” also has commendable single-target and damage-over-time effects, making him versatile in most combat scenarios.

Yatzli: She is a secondary damage dealer who specializes in area-of-effect ranged magic, making her particularly beneficial for melee-focused players. Her active skill, “Arduous Delay of Motion,” reduces enemy movement speeds, offering light crowd control. However, her lower ranking in this tier list is because she is unlocked as a companion very late in the game. By this time in Avowed, you have become an excellent damage dealer yourself. Therefore, the need for another damage dealer becomes very low.
