In this list, we shall go over the five of the very best World War 1 and World War 2 games to play in 2025.

The World Wars are moments in history that have had a persistent impact on all forms of literature and media, and games are no exception. In fact, games may be one of the best ways to experience this setting, as they throw you right into the middle of the horrors and adrenaline of the horrifying wars.
Video games, particularly first-person shooters, haven’t shied away from the setting either. We’ve had dozens of games set in the World Wars, so much so that the setting has lost its luster in the medium. Furthermore, with so many games pumped out so often, it’s hard to filter out the good from the bad, and many give up on the games entirely. If you’re looking to play a game set in either of the World Wars, let us filter out the good from the bad for you. In this list, we shall go over the five best World War games to play in 2025.

1) Battlefield 1

Kicking off this list is what is considered by many to be one of DICE’s best games ever, Battlefield 1. The ‘1’ in this title denotes its World War 1 setting. While this game does not focus on the psychological aspect of the horrifying war itself, it gives you the sense of dread and claustrophobia a soldier then would’ve felt sprinting through the trenches. The atmosphere is nothing short of immaculate, and the gunplay is exactly what you’d expect from a Battlefield game. This is as good as it gets.
2) Call of Duty: WW2

Much like its counterpart, Call of Duty has also delved into the historic setting multiple times over the course of the series. But none of the entries have matched the highs of Call of Duty: WW2 (World War 2), which was released in 2017. Unlike its counterpart, however, Call of Duty: WW2 takes place in the Second World War. This means the technology is more advanced, the threat is greater, and the weapons and tools at your disposal are relatively more modern. The game, as a result, is frantic and much faster-paced, yet still remains an absolute joy to play through.

3) Sniper Elite Resistance

While the previous two games focus on the experience in the trenches, Sniper Elite Resistance puts you into the shoes of a special sniper deployed on missions. These missions comprise retrieving documents, assassinating targets, or stopping major plots and schemes. The missions emphasize careful stealth and positioning and are a slower experience in general. The slower, more deliberate pace allows you to soak in the World War 2 setting better, making the game’s atmosphere a standout.
4) World of Tanks

Released in 2010, World of Tanks is a game that puts all its focus on tanks. Yes, you read that correctly. In World of Tanks, you control only tanks, and the gameplay never steps out of the bucket seat. The variety in gameplay comes from the various tanks you use, each requiring a different strategy on the battlefield. Make no mistake, though, World of Tanks is a tank simulator, and the battles are slow and deliberate. If you’re willing to take it slow and strategic, you’ll have fun with this one.
5) Hell Let Loose

Hell Let Loose is a multiplayer shooter set amidst a World War 2 backdrop. The gameplay is what you’d expect from any shooter in the genre – tight, precise, and tactical. The real hook of the game, however, is its maps. The maps in the game are made using historical archival footage and satellite imagery. This means that every map you step into was once an actual battlefield that soldiers fought upon. Each multiplayer match is then a recreation of the hell the soldiers went through, and the atmosphere is almost oppressive yet enticing.
