FW Arkveld is the final monster you face in Monster Hunter Wilds, making it one of the most difficult fights of the entire game. It is a High Rank battle that takes place in Chapter 6 of the title. If you’re struggling to take down the flagship monster of the latest Monster Hunter series, our guide will provide you with all the necessary strategies and tips to conquer FW Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds.

FW Arkveld Overview

FW Arkveld is the real form of the monster, and you only unlock it in the final chapter of the game. It is the only 7-star hunt in the entire game, which just goes to show the nature of the battle’s difficulty. By this point in the game, you would have already battled and bested the Guardian Arkveld. The FW Arkveld lacks some of the attacks that the Guardian variant had in its repertoire. However, as the cutscene shows when you approach the FW Arkveld, this variant has a lot of surprises up its sleeves. So, don’t make the mistake of taking this fight lightly, even when you are equipped with powerful weapons and armor.

How To Unlock FW Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds?

You will unlock the quest to fight FW Arkveld when you begin Chapter 6 of the game. You will need to attain a Hunter Rank of 40 before you can proceed. Once you’re ready for the fierce battle, talk to Nata. This will officially begin the assignment, dubbed ‘What Lies Ahead,’ that tasks you with investigating the monster and then slaying it. You can also achieve the optional objective of studying the monster’s carcass after killing it. Later on, you can also hunt FW Arkveld through the Chains of Life optional quest.

Where To Find FW Arkveld

You will be able to access the Chapter 6 quest to slay the monster by heading to the Windward Plains base camp. That’s where you’ll find Nata, who will lead you to the final variant of Arkveld.

FW Arkveld Weaknesses

Arkveld is not particularly weak to any particular elemental attacks, other than Dragon. So, we suggest using Dragon-based attacks and elements to cause the maximum damage. Keep in mind that the monster’s right and left chainblades are all immune to all elemental damage. So, even if using Fire, Thunder, Dragon, or other elements, make sure you do not target the chainblades. The monster is vulnerable to cut and bludgeoning damages, which should tell you the kind of weapons that would be most effective against it.

When it comes to FW Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds, the beast has several weak points that you can focus your attacks on for maximum damage. You can unleash a flurry of physical attacks on the monster’s chainblades. You can break off the chainblades and severely limit the beast’s attack after enough damage to these parts. Apart from this, you can also use your weapons to break the beast’s head. And, if you manage to get behind FW Arkveld, slash at its tail. This part of its body is also weak, and you can sever it.

Best Weapons for FW Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds

As we said previously, you’d do well to prioritize weapons that deal bludgeoning or cutting damage against the monster. Also, choose weapons that have Dragon-based damage to inflict even more pain on FW Arkveld. Slower weapons, on the other hand, may not be the right choice for this fight because it will limit your ability to unleash a few strikes before dodging out of the way of incoming attacks. So, it would be better to opt for faster gear.

The following are some weapons you should have at hand when fighting FW Arkveld:

Make sure you carry plenty of the following items into the battle with FW Arkveld:

• Mega healing potions
• Healing potions
• Nulberry
• Dragon pod
• Dragon ammo
• Flash pod
• Pitfall trap
• Shock trap

How To Beat FW Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds

Going into the fight, make sure you focus on breaking the monster’s chainblades first. Most of its devastating attacks rely on these chainblades and getting rid of them early on can give you a substantial upper hand in the rest of the battle. A good way to go about this is to wait for Arkveld to whip its chainblades forward as an attack. Get out of the way and use this opportunity to take a few shots at the exposed chainblades.

You can also target the head of the monster or sever its tail for some bonus damage. However, your focus will need to shift to the monster’s wings too from time to time. It can unleash explosive attacks marked in red using the energy that it stores in its wings. This is a highly dangerous attack, and you have to try and disable it. To do that, you can use Focus mode to attack the beast’s wings with elemental damage. Deal enough damage to the wings, and FW Arkveld will revert back to its normal state, and it won’t be able to use its absorbed energy.

Watch out for instances where the monster slams its chainblades on the ground, causing certain parts of the ground to glow red. These are explosives that will go off and damage you if you are caught in the blast’s radius.

The monster can also cause waterblight damage to you. When this happens, the elemental and status ailment damage linked to your weapons will get negated for a while. You can consume mulberry to get rid of the waterblight status. Or, you can also roll a few times in quick succession to avoid the penalty. Besides these attacks, the FW Arkveld can also unleash a weak roar to immobilize you. The best way to counter this would be to wear earplugs for the duration of this fight.

Tips To Defeat FW Arkveld

Following are some tips you can follow to defeat FW Arkveld:

• The first area where you face the monster has a Falling Ground Pillar. You can pull this down on the beast’s head for some early damage. Additionally, using a trap will help keep the monster in place long enough to pull off this maneuver.

• Whenever the monster glows red, brace for a powerful attack. You can try to dodge or run away when this happens to ensure you don’t get hit by these strikes.

• Like every other monster in the game, FW Arkveld will also develop wounds as the fight progresses. So, make sure you are targeting these wounds and destroying them to maximize your damage. Focus mode is perfect when trying to hit specific wounds on its body.

• The beast will often flee to different areas and fall asleep. In these cases, use explosive barrels to wake it up from its slumber. Also, as it goes through different regions of the game map, make sure you’re using environmental elements and endemic life forms to gain the upper hand in battle.
