Did you know your friend can play Split Fiction with you for free? Here’s how you can do it using the Friend’s Pass.

Split Fiction is a co-op action adventure set to be published by EA on March 6, 2025. The game is developed by Hazelight Studios, the very same developer of famous co-op titles such as It Takes Two and A Way Out. All these games share a similar feature known as Friend’s Pass.
The Friend’s Pass lets someone play Split Fiction even if they don’t own the game. All they need is an invite from another person who did buy Split Fiction. In other words, if you are a duo, only one of you needs to buy the game, and the other gets to play for free.
This guide will help you understand how to use the Friend’s Pass to play Split Fiction for free with your friend.
How to Obtain the Friend’s Pass for Split Fiction

When you search for Split Fiction on any platform, you can also see a Friend’s Pass version of the game. The person who wants to play for free has to download the Friend’s Pass version. After doing so, they simply have to go in-game and get an invite from the person who owns the original version of Split Fiction. This way, both players can play together in the same playthrough.
However, they need to have an EA account to use the Friend’s Pass feature. With the game running, the original owner of Split Fiction can invite friends from the EA friend list. This can also be done cross-platform. If the EA Friends List option is not available, check that Cross-Play is enabled in the game’s Options menu on PlayStation or within the account’s privacy settings on Xbox.
One thing to remember is that only online play is available when playing with Friend’s Pass. Local co-op shares the same game, so offline gaming is available in that case with a shared screen. However, the same is not possible when it comes to two different systems playing together — it then requires an internet connection.

What Happens If You Buy Split Fiction While Having a Friend’s Pass?
If you buy Split Fiction while having progressed in the Friend’s Pass, your progression gets carried over. If you own the game, you can play with as many players as you want, albeit only one at a time. Each of your friends will have a separate playthrough, so you can simply select the chapters you played till then and choose a starting point amongst them. Unlike Friend’s Pass players, achievements and trophies can only be unlocked by the person who owns the game.
